he Stafford County Board of Supervisors discussed options Tuesday on how to help homeowners struggling with stormwater management. Although the county is not responsible for stormwater damage at private properties, supervisors discussed the issue as a growing problem and want to consider helping Stafford residents in certain cases. Board members said that hypothetically criteria could be established to determine which cases need help from the county. Supervisors also discussed educating the public about the problem to prevent further damage. Supervisor Jack Cavalier, R-GriffisWidewater, called the stormwater management problem “ a critical situation from a public safety perspective.” Also at the meeting, the board of supervisors: • touched on a Nov. 17 tragedy in the Rock Hill District in which Stafford resident Lance Buckley shot and killed his 31-year-old wife, Amy Buckley, and their two daughters, Claire and Abigail. He then committed suicide. “There were four very tragic deaths in my district,” said Supervisor Wendy Maurer, R-Rock Hill. “I hope everyone keeps the Buckley family in their prayers, along with our first-responders. I can only imagine how devastating that was for them to walk into.” • said goodbye to Nancy Collins, budget division director, and Keith Dayton, deputy county administrator. Collins and Dayton are both retiring after 29 and 28 years of WATER service to Stafford PAGE 13
