s political candidates make their final impressions on voters, Stafford residents are gearing up for Tuesday’s general election. U.S. PRESIDENT
The presidential election will offer voters a choice between Donald Trump, a republican; Hillary Clinton, a democrat; Gary Johnson, a libertarian; Jill Stein, a green-party candidate and Even McMullin, an independent. And, what’s on the local ballot? HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE
In the 1st District of the U.S. House of Representatives, the candidates are incumbent Rob Wittman, a republican; M.D. “Matt” Rowe, a democrat; and Glenda Gail Parker, an independent. Virginia’s 1st District, within the eastern portion of the state, includes Stafford, the city of Fredericksburg and areas of Prince William, Fauquier and Spotsylvania counties, among other localities. SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE
The Stafford County School Board will offer
voters a choice of candidates for the Griffis-Widewater District seat on the school board. They include Jamie Decatur and Dana Reinboldt, both independent candidates. In the November 2015 election, Reinboldt sought to retain her seat after serving three terms on the school board, from January 2004 through 2015. In November 2015, candidate Emily Fallon defeated her; however, Fallon served less than four months of her term before abruptly resigning. She was quickly indicted, arrested and later sentenced to a year in prison for stealing money from Moncure Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization. She served several terms as president of the PTO prior to being elected to the school board. Later, Melissa Ayres was selected to continue Fallon’s term until a special election could be held this month. Ayres choose not to run for a permanent spot on the school board. Reinboldt is a real-estate agent whose children graduated from Stafford County Public Schools. She also served for many years on BALLOT various parent-teacher organizations PAGE 13 in Stafford County.

he Stafford County Board of Supervisors approved a contracts officer position Tuesday that will work jointly with the county and Stafford County Public Schools. The board voted unanimously in favor of the position. The vote sets in motion a memorandum of understanding with the Stafford County School Board in regard to the position. In July, supervisors approved a job description for the position, which includes writing contracts, drafting documents for the county and schools and monitoring major capital improvement projects. At an Oct. 25 meeting, the school board unanimously adopted the MOU with one requested change to adjust the number of days the school board has to notify the board of supervisors if terminating the MOU. The notice was first proposed at 365 days and changed to 90 days to match the number of days supervisors have to notify the school board of the same intent. County staff noted that the 365 days first recommended was in order to give the county enough noPOST tice should the MOU be PAGE 13
