Kevin Stocker, MD, FACOG, an OB/GYN provider at UVA Obstetrics and Gynecology at Culpeper Medical Center and associate professor at UVA How long have you been practicing medicine?

I have been with Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center for two and a half years, but have practiced for 25 years, all in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

What is your background?

I earned my medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed my medical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and practiced in Pittsburgh for over 20 years. I am board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

What made you pursue OB/ GYN? I originally planned to pursue

general surgery, but I did my OB/GYN rotation before my surgical rotation and have loved the specialty ever since.

The field appeals to me because I get to care for patients through all the transitions of a woman’s life. Seeing a wide range of patients in different age groups with various medical and surgical conditions means my work never feels “routine.”

What is the difference between obstetrics and gynecology?

“Obstetrics” relates to the health and medical conditions of a pregnant woman. “Gynecology” refers to the possible medical and surgical problems that can occur throughout a woman’s lifetime.

What does the expansion of Culpeper Medical Center’s UVA Obstetrics and Gynecology mean to you?

When I started working here two and a half years ago, the practice had two providers working out of a makeshift office. We quickly outgrew the available space. We’d begun to see more patients, offer more labs and imaging studies, perform more surgical procedures and even saw an increase in delivery volume. The new space allows us to comfortably expand these services and plan for the future.

Culpeper Medical Center has made women’s health services a priority and the new space has improved our community’s access to quality OB/GYN care.

What specific services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of OB/GYN services for women in all stages of life.

That includes adolescents, pregnant women, post-menopausal women and anyone in between. There’s no reason women need to leave the Culpeper area for OB/GYN services. Women can access care for the full breadth of OB/ GYN concerns, from abnormal bleeding, infertility, and pelvic floor disorders to contraceptive issues, high-risk pregnancies and surgical problems. We accomplish this through comprehensive services, including prenatal care, mammograms, minimally-invasive surgeries, ultrasounds and blood services.

What are you most passionate about as a provider?

I strongly believe that everyone should have access to quality healthcare.

In states with large rural areas, like Virginia, it takes an extra level of effort to ensure that happens. In my time with Novant Health UVA Health System, I’ve noticed an admirable commitment to providing that access to care.

What are your hopes for the future of women’s healthcare?

A woman’s health during pregnancy is a window into her future health.

We are seeing better predictions of maternal complications during pregnancy, as well as advancements in genetic testing. Additionally, innovations in medicine now allow us to perform surgeries with minimal trauma, smaller incisions and quicker recoveries. I look forward to continuing down that path. My ideal vision of healthcare is that all women have access to safe, excellent, quality health care. When hospital systems like Novant Health partner with world class academic centers like UVA, that goal becomes achievable not only in Culpeper, but across the region.

What would your patients be surprised to learn about you?

I love dogs and have one named Boss that I adopted from Culpeper Animal Shelter.

Powell Wellness Center community effort logs most steps in national Walk 10K challenge The community effort organized by Powell Wellness Center (PWC) logged the most steps in the annual Walk 10K Challenge sponsored by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) that took place May 6-12, 2019. PWC and other MFA medical fitness-certified centers across the country organize the challenge in their local areas, inviting individuals and groups such schools, businesses and clubs to participate and experience the benefits of walking. Community participants in PWC’s Walk 10K logged a winning 63,918,822 steps.

For the second year, the Culpeper Wellness Foundation offered a $500 grant directed toward physical education for schools reaching 1,500,000 steps. Five schools answered - and exceeded - the challenge. Physical education grants are being awarded to: Yowell Elementary, Emerald Hill Elementary, Sycamore Park Elementary, AG Richardson Elementary, and FT Binns Middle School. “We are pleased to support the physical education programs at these schools and appreciate the enthusiastic response by the teachers and students.

It’s fun to see kids get excited about healthy challenges like this one,” said Foundation president Shari Landry.

Culpeper Medical Center, SWIFT, and Kids Central afterschool program together contributed nearly 14 million steps to the PWC total.

Thanks to donations by PWC and Culpeper Sport & Fitness, walkers were able to win raffle prizes such as group training and personal training packages, pickleball passes, swim lessons, smoothies and water bottles.

“We’d like thank everyone who joined us in the 2019 challenge. We’re proud to support this initiative by the MFA and always enjoy the enthusiastic participation in Walk 10K. This year blew us away!” said Eric Good, Director of Powell Wellness Center.

Walking is low impact, no equipment is needed, and you can do it pretty much anywhere. It’s also a wonderful fitness activity for friends and family to enjoy together – walking offers social time!

We hope participation in Walk 10K has encouraged a lot more people to get out and walk, whether they’re just starting a fitness program or are adding another activity to their existing routine.”

Three part seminars at SBDC scheduled for July 15

I am very proud of this program and these future leaders. Three years ago when I initially brought this youth leadership initiative from Loudoun County, there were several people and groups that were very supportive: John Egertson, County Administrator, and my current counterparts on the Board of Supervisors who agreed to officially sanction this program at our monthly meeting. Lisa Peacock and my Human Service Board counterparts who worked out the Coordinator position for the program. Jamie Clancey who helped me start this program in Culpeper and accepted the Coordinator position with great motivation and passion. Dan Carlton, Russell Houck, Alexa Fritz, Adriana Bustamante, and Rachel Carter who founded and served on our initial Mentor Board. Scott Found, Found & Sons and Ken Greenfield, Cintas who initially partnered up with Culpeper Youth and kindly contributed financially to the program. These individuals continue to offer steadfast support to take this program forward.

Culpeper Youth strives to open up opportunities for teenagers in our community. The program partners up with local businesses to provide shadowing and intern partnerships to the teen members, offers hands-on leadership skills, and teaches political protocol, rules, and etiquette as Culpeper Youth governs themselves. The familiar strands of Brahms Lullaby played Wednesday at the Culpeper Medical Center Women’s Center UVA Obstetrics and Gynecology department, signalling a new arrival.

This time, it wasn’t a bouncing baby boy or girl - but a whole new facility for the Culpeper community to utilize.

“This is really an awesome event that is long overdue for our community,” said Jeff Hetmanski, President of Culpeper Medical Center, a facility of Novant Health UVA Health System.

“I think back to nearly six decades ago and the founding members of our hospital that were tired of traveling out of community to deliver. I think that if they were here with us tonight they would be truly impressed with Culpeper Medical Center has become and especially this women’s facility.”

With both primary and preventative care services available to women of all ages, the center is equipped to meet the healthcare needs of women in every stage of life. Providers, trained to understand the changing needs of women over time, offer care for long-term OB/GYN health in adolescent, adult, pregnant, menopausal or post-menopausal and geriatric women.

Brandi Taylor, nursing director of women’s services, said that the new center meets a need that community members had been asking for.

“We needed a more expansive and updated area for our community,” Taylor said. “Within this building we have the capability to bring in other services pertinent to women. This space allows us to do that. In the future we

will expand and grow to offer all types of services.”

The women’s center offers 9,000 square feet of clinical space including 11 spacious exam rooms, designated areas for minor procedures, ultrasounds and consultations, a full-service lab for lab work and offices for providers and staff.

The center offers OBGYN services, internal fetal medicine and genetic counseling. Taylor said the center sees women ages 10 to 100 and helps those who may have been traveling to Charlottesville for services.

“A lot of the patients that head to Charlottesville, that may be high risk pregnancies, they can stop in this office and see a provider via telemedicine,” Taylor said.

The center saw 1,250 patients in May, 150 more than the previous month.

“To see that response, I think it exceeds our expectations,” Hetmanski said. “This is exceptional, we had this from the works in 2015,. We were faced with losing OB services for years.

Working with the county health department and it was so well received we outgrew the space. This is probably a year overdue. We’re so excited to have the expanded space, especially for the women of the community.”

“This almost takes my words away, this facility is spectacular,” Ferguson said. “I think the most wonderful part of this is that patients in Culpeper County and beyond don’t have to go anywhere to get the best care.”

Dr. Kevin Stocker, MD, General Obstetrics and Gynecology, admitted that when it he came to the practice two and a half years ago, he had some questions about the commitment to women's health in the community.

Those were quickly answered by the staff and administration at Culpeper Medical Center.

“The board and Jeff really stepped

up and made a deep commitment to this hospital and showed us the importance to the future of the hospital that women’s health care plays,” Stocker said.

The providers at UVA Obstetrics and Gynecology at Culpeper Medical Center include a team of board-certified OB/GYN doctors, aided by a nurse practitioner and a physician’s assistant.

Houchens hangs up her gun belt ➤ Longtime law enforcement officer on community college campuses has helped keep students safe for decades

By Jeff Say Culpeper Times Staff Writer Karen Houchens is a legend.

The longtime community college law enforcement officer celebrated her upcoming retirement Monday morning at Germanna Community College with longtime colleagues, friends and family members.

A law enforcement officer for 28 years, Houchens worked at Germanna Community College since 2013, serving as Deputy Chief.

“This is hard,” an emotional Branch said.

“I know the impact an officer can make on a student - she did it. We do stupid stuff, she’ll growl at us, smack us on the head.

All in all, we knew she loved us and she wasn’t going to let anything happen to us. I took that philosophy when I was at Virginia State. They’re our kids and we’re going to do everything we can to protect them.

She’s like a mother to us, and she was my right hand.”

Houches started her career at the Department of Motor Vehicles before working at Virginia State University in the 1990s.

She later moved to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College before ending her career at Germanna.

“The only word that comes to me when we talk about Deputy Chief Houchens, is a legend,” Branch said. “She’s a legend in our profession.”

Branch said her dedication, her knowledge and her iconic raised eyebrow defined Houchens throughout her career. She truly cared about the students under her watch, with many of her considering her ‘mom.’

“We go through a lot, responding out to students in crisis at 2 in the morning,” Branch said. “It’s a really difficult job, there’s a lot that goes on keeping a campus safe behind the scenes. She’s been able to do it for 28 years and do it at a high level.”

Chief David Bragg, Virginia State University, went through leadership school with Houchens and has worked with her throughout her career.

“She was dedicated to law enforcement and her skills and knowledge was impressive,” he said. “She was dedicated and committed to helping the police department grow.”

Retired Germanna Community College President Dr. David Sam hired Houchens and said she went above and beyond her role as an officer, working with students to teach them about the dangers of drinking and driving and working with them to promote safety on campus.

“Your first job is protecting us, but you’re also part of the community,” Sam said. “You worked with so many classes educating them, you’re a teacher in that respect - you lived our mission. You made a big difference in a short time.”

Culpeper Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Wes Mayles said Houchens kept the Lead Culpeper Class of 2016 in check, keeping the class grounded and on task.

“Culpeper Lead was such an eye opener,” Houchens said with a laugh. “I didn’t sign up for the crawling and rope climbing and all of that. They were great classmates and I love them to death.”

Houchens said she has loved her career, but it’s time to step away after 28 years.

“I stay on the boys and the rest of my officers, just follow the guidelines of what we have and everything works out for the good,” Houchens said. “I love my profession, but it’s time for me to hang my gun belt up.

“I wasn’t expecting this today,” Houchens said. “I was supposed to come in to help getting budgets straight. I just love all of y’all.

It’s going to be bittersweet, but I have to move on and do other things in life.”

Butler chooses HUB for his Eagle Scout Project ➤ Public invited to to help with project Saturday along Cherry Hill Road in Culpeper Amy Wagner Contributing writer A new Eagle will soon be flying to new heights. Owen Butler plans to achieve Eagle Scout rank in the next few months.

With eyes sighted for his Eagle Scout project on Saturday June 29, he sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Butler invites the community to come out and support him in his endeavors and the accomplishment of his project; inching him one step closer to Eagle rank.

Butler, who has been a scout with Troop 196 (at St. Luke’s) since sixth grade was exploring Eagle projects and stumbled across the Central Virginia Mission (CVM) HUB. A community mission, sponsored by Culpeper United Meth-

odist Church, Butler said his mother is an active volunteer with the HUB and when the group inquired if any scouts were inButler terested in helping, Butler decided to step up and adopt it as his Eagle project. One of thirty-five HUBS in the Northeast United States, the Central Virginia HUB is the first in Virginia and their focus is disaster relief and emergency needs The HUB has two trailers, full of flood supplies, that are stationary and housed at the Cherry Hill Road location; 11251 Cherry Hill Road in Culpeper.

This is the location where Butler’s Eagle project will be held on Saturday, June 29. Younger volunteers will stock and pack hygiene kits for flood victims and older scouts and volunteers will be repairing the trailers.

All supplies and all tools will be provided but Butler encourages volunteers to bring work gloves and wear old clothes.

the troop and their families are planning to help him out, but he hopes many others from the community come out to support his project.

Butler invites all ages of volunteers on Saturday because there is so much that needs to be done.

The hygiene kits are important for flood victims, however, “they are stored in the trailers which are currently leaking; causing supplies to get wet” he said. Older volunteers are needed to seal rusty rivets and holes outside trailers and to rubber paint seals and spots on the trailer roofs.

“The skills and leadership traits you learn through scouts is really good for jobs to look at,” said Butler. He feels it is important to have the Eagle rank on college applications and resumes for future endeavors. Butler has three more merit badges to go to meet the requirements for Eagle Scout of which 21 total are needed.

Soaring towards the Naval Academy post High School, he currently plays lacrosse for Eastern View High School; stays busy on his farm; and takes care of

groundskeeping for the HUB once a week.

Butler was led to scouts in Elementary school when one of his friends told him about it. “I tried it and I liked it so I stuck with it. I got rank quickly and stayed with it through the years as I got closer to Eagle,” said Butler. “I got in to scuba diving with the troop. That has been a passion of mine,” said Butler who will be the first Eagle Scout in his family since his Grandfather.

“I admire my Scoutmaster, Mr. Dong Ray, because he is very passionate for my generation of scouts who are in it and so close to Eagle and achieving it. He was ready to retire, and he stuck around for another year to see us finish it off.

HISTORY The diverse and significant Battle of Bunker Hill CHARLES JAMESON

If you polled various Americans to name a Revolutionary War battle, one of the top responses would be Bunker Hill. Occurring just 2 months after the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Bunker Hill was part of the Siege of Boston. Although it was a defeat for the Patriots, it would change the British approach to the rebellion which would ultimately lead to their defeat.

After the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the patriot militia around Boston swelled to about 15,000 men. These forces were used to surround the city, cutting off any supply routes by land. Unfortunately

the patriots had no ships of any kind.

So the British still controlled Boston Harbor. This allowed the British to reinforce their troops to about 6000 men.

On 25 May British generals William Howe, John Burgoyne and Henry Clinton arrived to assist General Gates in breaking out of the city and quelling the revolt. By 12 June they had a plan. They would secure their southern flank by taking Dorchester Neck and Roxbury. They would then turn their attention to Charleston Heights and Cambridge.

The attack would commence on 18 June.

On the patriot side, the Committee of Safety got wind of the plan to capture Dorchester and Charleston, so the Massachusetts Provincial Congress declared additional defenses be set to resist the attack. General Israel Putnam was directed to set up defenses on

Charleston Peninsula, specifically at Bunker Hill. On the night of 16 June, Col. William Prescott and about 1200 men began the set-up of artillery which could fire on Boston. When they examined the area, Prescott felt that Breed’s Hill was closer to Boston and was more defensible, so he decided to build their main redoubt there.

Not surprising, the building of the redoubt was easily spotted by the British. There was some argument on the British side about the urgency of an attack on Breed’s Hill. That arguing might have dragged on into the next day, but at about 4am a sentry aboard the HMS Lively noticed the fortifications and the Captain of the Lively opened fire on it.

Abandoning their original plan, the British generals met and agreed to attack the redoubt. It took close to 6 hours for the British to organize their forces. It then took several

trips by long boat to transport all the initial forces to Moulton’s Point.

So the main British force was not in place until about 2pm. Col. Prescott could see the British were mobilizing and called for reinforcements. Those reinforcements came, but there was a lot of confusion on the colonists side about where to go and whose orders to follow.

Around 3pm, the British led by General Howe began an assault on the Patriot left flank. They were lined up 4 deep and several hundred yards across. Both sides opened fire. The colonists, using fences and other items to steady their muskets inflicted heavy casualties on the British.

The Militia was able to hold their ground while the British retreated in disarray. A second assault by the British was equally disastrous for them. Not deterred by their losses, ➤ See Bunker Hill, Page 11

This attack proved successful, but again at a cost of many British lives.

At this point the battle devolved into close combat. Here the British had the advantage as their troops were equipped with bayonets while most of the patriots were not. The American forces might have been captured by the British except for a skilled retreat engineered by James Stark and Thomas Knowlton, which prevented the encirclement of the hill.

General Putnam tried to reorganize his troops on Bunker Hill, but the flight of the colonists was too rapid. So the artillery pieces and other heavy tools the Americans brought to Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill ended up being abandoned.

The patriots retreated to fortified positions in Cambridge.

The British successfully took Charleston, but at a terrible cost. They had 1054 casualties including 100 commissioned officers.

The Americans lost very few in comparison, but they did lose General Joseph Warren and Major Andrew McClary – the final casualty of the battle. The casualty count was the highest suffered by the British in any single battle during the war. British Commander General Clinton in his diary remarked, “A few more victories

like this would have shortly put an end to British dominion in America.”

It proved to be a sobering experience for the British and dissuaded them in the future from conducting frontal assaults on well defended front lines. The battle led the British to adopt a more cautious planning and maneuver execution which was evident in future engagements, and arguably helped rather than hindered the American forces. In particular, this new approach allowed the American forces to retreat off of a number of battle fields rather than being captured by the British, thus keeping the revolution alive.

The battle also proved that the inexperienced American Militia could stand up to the British regulars. A lot of that can be attributed to regular Americans taking charge on the field of battle. One such American was Salem Poor. In the Massachusetts state archives is a petition to the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, stating that in the “late Battle at Charlestown” a man in Colonel Fry’s regiment “behaved like an experienced officer”; and “In the person of this said Negro centers a brave and gallant soldier.”

This document is signed by fourteen officers present at the battle including Colonel William Prescott. Although documents show that Salem Poor along with his regiment were there

to build fortifications on the night of June 16,1775, we have no other details about what Poor did to earn the praise of his officers. Salem Poor, who had bought his freedom in 1769 for 27 pounds which represented a years’ salary for the typical working man, left his wife and child behind in May, 1775 and fought for the Patriot cause at Bunker Hill, and later Saratoga, and Monmouth.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was a daring and provocative act against an established authority; all who participated could well have been hanged for treason and/or shut out from many opportunities in colonial

society. They chose to fight for an independent nation. We can only speculate about Salem Poor’s motive for his sacrifice: was it Patriotism, a search for new experience, or the prospect of a new and better life.

JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT • Country

Club of Culpeper is pleased to present its’ first annual Jr. Open Golf Tournament. The tournament, sponsored by Friends of Youth Golf, is scheduled for Monday, July 29. Friends of Youth Golf are a group of individuals that wish to inspire and encourage kids of all ages to learn and play the game of golf. The event is for players from 9 to 18 years old. Open to all youth from the surrounding areas, schools, and clubs. The younger group (9-12 years old) division will play 9 holes and the older will play 18 holes. There will be prizes in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions. Players may use a caddie. The Club will host a pool party for players and families following the tournament and the cost is $25/player. Non-player families may attend the party for $10/ person. The pool party is over at 4 p.m. and includes picnic food.

VIEWS Uncle Walt where have you gone There was a time when a television journalist was viewed by many Marshall Conner in the country as a hero.

He was “the center of calm in the whirlwind” or “Mr. Reality: It hasn’t happened unless he reports it,” according to his admirers. He had professional accolades that included, “a reputation for neutrality.”

To viewers he was the last of the old-school newsmen, a grandfatherly voice that was simultaneously serious, reassuring, human and unbiased.

The year was 1981 and many families across the nation tuned in to see the final broadcast of Walter Cronkite from the CBS Evening News. I loved the buzzing newsroom feel as he manned the anchor desk.

In the 1980s the mass media world was so much smaller, but Cronkite was an incredibly beloved and trusted figure in American life.

His coverage provided the narrative during the Civil Rights movement, assassinations, the space race, the Vietnam War, Watergate, the Iran hostage crisis and presidential elections—he earned Emmys and even a Presidential Medal of Freedom in his career. He covered 19 pivotal years in American history.

Cronkite became a celebrity in a field that previously did not enjoy a great reputation. In popular culture the newspaper reporters were viewed as fast talking, often boozy, marginally trust-worthy, conduits between worlds the average person didn’t really want to inhabit. They wrote the stories of the streets, crime, sports, politics and disasters.

In one sense the conclusion of Cronkite’s career was the highwater mark for trust in professional journalism. Now the state of print journalism appears to be struggling

at the community level—with fewer newspapers, and fewer voices reporting on local events. The ones I know and work with locally are excellent and do their best to provide quality community news. It takes perseverance to write.

Most of our nation’s largest circulation papers tilt coverage to the whims and political leanings of ownership and less on fact-driven, multi-sourced news stories. We used to laugh when people spoke about a collective media bias—now I’m not so sure anyone should be laughing.

What isn’t lacking in print or mass media is opinion—it’s enough to make a columnist jealous. So many voices are out there with social media, bloggers and alternative news sources that the big outlets are being lost in the chatter. People can choose the media outlets they prefer— therefore insulating themselves in the ideas they strongly believe in.

The nation’s thirst for instantaneous news carries a risk.

ALERT: Facts follow the impact of a breaking story sometimes days later. Breaking stories are edited on the fly with cameras rolling.

The 24-hour news channels mainly CNN and MSNBC have become a therapy ward for viewers disgruntled by elections. They offer scandals and rumors of scandals to create hope.

The more conservative media outlets (Fox News, talk radio) served the same purpose for the right during the Obama and Clinton administrations. All are increasingly opinion-based, personality-driven news.

The most troubling trend at least for me is the incestuous relationship between professional political operatives seamlessly entering the field of journalism. America doesn’t want news squeezed through some ex-political figure’s biases.

It’s comical to think that a former political operative will simply drop their views at the doors of his or her new media job for a paycheck.

Journalists should be trained journalists—don’t hire political castoffs.

Are journalism schools producing quality journalists? Why are stories selected? Why are stories ignored?

Why are some politicians immune?

Why are others constantly in the sights of the mass media? What’s going on in the rest of the world?

Who’s reporting on local news? Did you know social media algorithms steer what we see in our news feeds?

One of my little hobbies is to present a question, image or statement on social media and see if I can get a polarized world to agree. Give it a try… you might be surprised. It constantly amazes me how intelligent people on all points of the political spectrum can see completely different realities— and yes, all sides still have bright likeable people. Sometimes they can even agree.

The other day I posted a quote from George Orwell, “The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate who speaks it.”

Guess what? Progressives liked it, conservatives liked it, libertarians (thought about liking it), old guys liked it, socialists liked it, friends in other countries liked it, and even teenagers liked it.

All because they felt that it applied to the scary “others.”

Imagine if we started working together on the big issues of our day, working on solutions, not tearing each other down. Refuse to be polarized. We are Americans and it’s about time we started seeing what we can agree on. Let’s not pull the bilge plug on our own boat and yell at each other—let’s put the damn plug back in and remain afloat!

We are the great melting pot of ideas, cultures, and innovation.

Journalism in all its manifestations requires a good hard look in the mirror to regain the trust it once had.

Obituaries Kathleen Cerio

K

athleen Cerio, 72, of Culpeper died Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Culpeper Health and Rehab Center. She was born November 9, 1946 to the late David and Bernadine VanMarter in Syracuse, NY.

Kathleen worked for MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, for over ten years in Northern Virginia. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. She enjoyed interior decorating, but most importantly she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John L. Cerio of Culpeper; children; David Cerio and wife, Waverly of Manassas Park and Kelly Fairbank and husband, Richard of Reston; grandchildren, Emily Cerio and Matthew Cerio both of Manassas Park and Cody Fairbank and Vanessa Fairbank both of Reston; and brother, Timothy VanMarter and wife, Cynthia of Fayetteville, NY. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two brothers, David VanMarter, Jr. and Terrance VanMarter.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA, with Rev. Ludwell Brown officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 502 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA.
