Site plan
Elevational study key plan
Studying the circulation patterns of AMS Student Nest at UBC, Canada, it was found that providing open plan circulation in an atrium w ith transparency to its surroundings helps foster a sense of community among its students, hence a similar method was adopted in the design here. The site sits on the edge of SP’s campus, isolated by roads and split into 2 heights 4.3m apart. The response prompted was to turn the site into a circulation node of the campus, providing the convenience and shelter required to encourage foot traffic and lingering.

Schematic Design The Design Intent was to enable social diffusion and social connectivity in a tropical context, and the Design Concept was to have an abundance of community plot ratio for interactive spaces within circulation netw orks. The design concept manifests in the feature staircase, which cuts through the link bridges to provide seamless access to key gathering spaces within the building

Design Development
Public gathering: ORA + Thoroughfare
The criteria of DD required more a more practical showcase of the building’s materiality, bioclimatic integration and spatial plan. Refinements to structural and spatial expressions were done in the name of compliance and designing a “ Super low energy future school of engineering” .

Private learning: adaptable classrooms
Feature space key plan
For social diffusion to happen, people must first be concentrated in a gathering space. The hall is the heart of the project, sitting amongst the major arteries of connectivity.

Title: ‘Synopticon’
A study of nuanced human perception of social spaces, to invoke feelings of comfort and lingering through biophilia, on top of high community plot ratio
A social concept mirroring ‘Panopticon’, ‘Synopticon’ enables the masses a freedom to observe a few. Translated to a design intent for an engineering school, ‘Synopticon’ represents the transparency of the inner workings of the school. It removes visual boundaries betw een learning and non-learning spaces, and encourages social activities to flourish. Out-of-classroom learning and social activities are facilitated by the design concept to provide an abundance of communal areas intertwined within circulation networks. An expressive and practical roof canopy rounds up the design by providing the users of this building shelter from the weather

Technical Studies II
14
Excerpts from this module journal showcases my technical understanding of architectural junctions and mechanical services through modelling and rendering diagrams from scratch.
The takeaway after applying this technical knowledge onto my design compliance submission is to provide thickness buffer for details and drainage, plus assign space for services. Though as architectural designers, w e focus more on the design, these items must exist for the building to function, so it must always be considered on the back of my mind.

Internship at Working on
@ CLARKE QUAY
My most significant experience for the AEI of CQ @ CLARKE QUAY was translating a SketchUp model into construction drawings for the heritage interpretation peddler’s walk. The many feature elements, existing works, outdated material callouts and tedious design that had to fit into 2 A3 drawings made the task very difficult.

Tasks •
Tenant Design Guideline request Collated a clear reference set of drawings to respond to a 10-item list of details required
•
Tenant Design signage key elevation Drafted a drawing package which marked up all the signage types, location and unit extent of every elevation in CQ
•
Model reference render of feature wall
URA heritage interpretation plan Accounted for every type, count and location of heritage interpretation signage, indicated on a key plan
In this project, my responsibilities also extended to following up on the corridor drawings and ensuring shop drawings of signages conformed to the originally issued plans. Additionally, I managed the distribution of my drafted designs to contractors, subcontractors, and design managers as necessary.
