ACADEMIC WORK SAMPLE 2022 - 2024

Testaccio: Art

Hello! My name is Leen Hashim Abidi and I am a recent graduate from Parsons School of Design. I was born and raised in Dubai, U.A.E. I came to New York for my undergraduate studies in architecture and coding. I have dedicated the past four years to learning the intricacies of iteration, collaboration, engineering, coding, and the creation of sustainable architectural designs. I am commited to crafting a built environment that is sustainable and offers enriched spatial experiences for individuals. Additionally, I am keen on developing artificial intelligence models for construction material data and aspire to deepen my understanding of architecture.

Residential, Textile Education and Data Collection. Danby, VT, U.S.A
Spring 2024, Capstone Project Rhino 3D, Climate Studio, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Enscape BFA Architecture Sustainable Design Award

The education center of this project experiments with the implementation of textiles in architecture. The education center includes research labs to experiment with natural materials and gain information on these materials which can be used for data collection. An artifical intelligence model was built using data collection of these textiles to create a webpage which identifies and provides information on these materials, including the RValue and classification of each material. I beleive open access to information on natural materials enables architects and designers to have a source for alternative and sustainable materials for their designs, leading to a sustainable construction process overall.

TESTACCIO ART EXHIBITION X PRODUCTION is an adaptive reuse project in the neighbourhood of Testaccio, Rome, Italy. The triangluer structure was originally an office space for a slaughterhouse and was adapted to create an art studio. The work of the artists and their creative use of the space inspired a gallery addition to the art studio.
This project renovated the art studio space to add extra scultpure, painting and digital workspaces. The Gallery addition has orange metal, geometric roofs to bring attention to the building from the streetview. The gallery space displays the work of the artists with a gift shops to sell products of the artists.

The Kunsthaus Bregenz is a contemporary art exhibition, crafted by Peter Zumthor. The original facade consists of a systematic layout of 6x3m glass panels. This project explores an open approach to the facade of the building. Iterations for a system and pattern was done throigh physical model making and code. This project along with my coding classes in college grew my interest in combining code with architecture.
The new system connects the midpoints of the rectangular glass panels to create a diamond. In between each diamond is a balcony in order for the guests to view the magnificent water outside the museum. This design harmoniously merges the elegance of indoor art with the vast beauty of nature, painting diamonds across the sky.

This is a thermal structure using sustainable materials and zero operational systems. The structure is a proposal for another basecamp in Höfn for the National Outdoor Leadership School(NOLS).
The National Outdoor Leadership School teaches people how to live in the wilderness through planting food, and adventure sports with supplies in one backpack. In order to reflect the efficency required to thrive in the NOLS program this structure uses materials and thermal understanding, to create an efficent structure.
