SITE LOCATION 7300 E CAMELBACK RD, SCOTTSDALE, AZ 85251 Xa Xan is located on a plot in Scottsdale, Arizona at the intersection of E Camelback Rd and N 73rd St. As the capital city, Phoenix is the heart of Arizona's industrial market, education, and art scene. This land is within Maricopa county lines, the land of the Pima/Piipaash indigenous people.

RESEARCH & INSPIRATION Maricopa County named after Maricopa/Pima people who have inhabited the land for several centuries.

After colonization, the Pima/Maricopa language is going extinct.

The language is considered severely endangered by UNESCO. "Xa Xan" meaning River The Salt River of Arizona played such an important role in the lives of those inhabiting the land that they named themselves ‘the (river) People’ or 'Maricopa'.

CONCEPT To preserve significant indigenous Maricopa traditions, especially by serving authenic foods, encouraging family-style seating displaying historical artworks, and utilizing sustainable building methods and materials to protect the sacred land.

Utilization of the Maricopa/Pipaash language will be encorporated throughout signage and menus.
