Ryan Wilks is a self taught artist from Kansas City. The work focuses on Queer expression of sexuality and spirituality. In Hell, Ryan Wilks explores illuminated manuscripts, reimagined through the lens of a modern spiritual experience. Much of the work couples text illustrated with graphic imagery; invocations written to accompany a visual spell. Heavily influenced by occult aesthetic and the rich history of illuminated manuscripts, this work travels through time and gives space to new interpretations of what doctrine can be. “Hell is a tactic we are already in.” – Ryan Wilks
