The University of Leeds Human Rights Journal is a multidisciplinary publication created by students with the aim of providing a platform for ambitious undergraduates to publish their academic and creative work on the theme of human rights. It was founded in 2012 and is the first journal of its kind in the UK.
This year, the “In Focus” theme is Protest. The theme is to highlight the struggle of many
across the world in protesting abuses, and advocating for improved human rights.
From analysing Palestinians using drag as a form of protest, to the political meaning in the
personal diaries of enslaved people, Volume VIII of the Leeds Human Rights Journal aims to
provide a global commentary on the protests of marginalised and exploited peoples.
The Journal also includes the work of creatives to further comment on human rights and to
illuminate advocacy
