We’re delighted to unveil our vision for the new state-of-the-art campus at Quarry Hill. This inspiring teaching space is the result of years of hard work by our staff and partners and is an important part of our ongoing success.

COLIN BOOTH, CHIEF EXECUTIVE & PRINCIPAL OF LEEDS CITY COLLEGE This summer, the building will welcome the first students and teaching staff on what will be a new chapter for our organisation, one which helps to tell our story and shows our ambition.

The realisation of this project is testament to the power of working together across different organisations and bodies towards a greater vision.

We’re delighted to be playing a part in creating a shared resource for our future, and developing the skills needed for the region’s continued growth and success.

Quarry Hill Campus is part of a £300 million, six acre regeneration plan for the area. This new cultural quarter will include apartments, restaurants and bars, offices, a hotel and two acres of green space.

The state-of-the-art £60m Quarry Hill campus development has been funded by Leeds City College and a £33.4m grant from the Leeds City Region Growth Deal.

This is delivered jointly by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).

The Northern Powerhouse Schools Strategy is focussed on helping young people succeed and developing a talented workforce for the future.

The Leeds City Region Strategic Economic Plan (2016-36) prioritises health and life sciences and creative and digital alongside four additional sectors as having the most significant growth potential for the region’s economy.

The Leeds Inclusive Growth Strategy focuses on tackling inequality through improving skills and opportunities so that everyone can contribute to and benefit from a thriving economy.

A new home for our two biggest schools School of Creative Arts (1,500 students) including Backstage Production, Computer Games, Performance Arts, Media, Music, Visual Arts. As well as a dedicated HE block for degree level courses.

School of Social Science (1,500 students) including Childhood & Education, Health Science & Social Care, Public Services.

Plus Leeds College of Music (240 students) School of Performance including Musical Theatre, Acting, Actor Musician.

The Quarry Hill campus is a world class facility in terms of energy efficiency. A number of innovative features have been factored into the design from the first stages of planning, meaning the building will achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.

This fits in with the overall strategy of the college to reduce its impact on the environment throughout its operations.

The building will utilise green ‘living’ walls and solar units to harvest energy, as well as eight different types of glass, which will help to naturally moderate the temperature inside.

These features will help to keep energy usage to a minimum and reduce the building’s carbon impact.

Leeds City College was rated Good by Ofsted in 2018.

This included the important area of personal development, behaviour and welfare which was graded Outstanding.

The School of Social Science includes three distinct areas, all committed to nurturing the next generation of carers, educators and public service workers.

Delivered by passionate staff who have industry experience, vocational training for 16-19 year olds is delivered through full-time courses offering Cache, NCFE and BTEC qualifications and apprenticeships in: - Early Years Education - Supporting Teaching & Learning - Adult Health & Social Care - Clinical Healthcare Support - Teamwork & Personal Development - Childcare - Early Years Educator - Adult Care Worker - Support Worker

School of Social Science

English and maths are key course components for students who have not achieved at least grade 4 in these studies. Work experience and social action are also a crucial part of each learner’s study programme.

Students can progress on to HE health, care and education degree courses at Leeds City College’s University Centre.

The health science and social care sector is one of the biggest employers in the region, providing 190,541 jobs, 40% of which are in front-line care roles.

Our ageing population means demand for health and social care services is predicted to grow by 9.6% (2015-22) which equates to 10,000 new jobs in the Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield areas*. * Source: The Sainsbury

School of Creative Arts

Bringing all of our Creative Arts students under one roof, will enable a culture of collaboration and the sharing of ideas; an environment where students can explore their creative expression through a variety of art forms.

We welcome external practitioners and organisations who want to use our rehearsal, gallery and performance spaces to share and develop their art.

An innovative addition to the cultural quarter, the 150 seat theatre will deliver shows and performances to the public.

Designed by Theatre Projects, the theatre beam weighs 250 tonnes (about 1.5 blue whales).

It has retractable seating, perfect for creating alternative event or exhibition space.

A hub of inspiration for budding artists The college’s new music provision will give students the opportunity to develop their raw talent and succeed in the industry.

With a strong focus on practical skills, students can hone their abilities in their chosen genre and explore topics such as ensemble skills, performance techniques and composition.

The impressive space will also be a centre hub for local practitioners to rehearse and experiment.

Taking creativity to the next level Part of the University Centre at Leeds City College, the campus will have a dedicated block for creative arts degree students.

Our facilities and strong industry links mean we can offer students practical experience, in the areas the industry needs most.

Our foundation degree courses (2 years) and BA (Hons) top-ups (1 year) include: Acting, Art Enterprise, Computer Games, Concept Art, Dance, Fashion & Textiles, Film & Screen Media, Graphic Design & Illustration, Photography.

HE Creative Arts is perfectly located to bolster the cultural quarter. The courses will be supported by Leeds Playhouse, Pheonix, ITV and Channel 4.

Part of a leading European conservatoire Leeds College of Music provides music education to a community of almost 1,500 musicians through a variety of programmes; including undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, numerous short courses and Junior LCoM, a provision for 9-18 year olds.

With a panoramic view of the city landscape, Leeds College of Music will have 1,100m2 of specialist facilities for its new performing arts degree students. Bespoke dance and drama studio spaces will sit alongside music ensemble rooms designed and built by industry leaders, The Studio People.

With a strong technical focus, the college supported the computing, engineering, social care and transport industries. The college was also a national centre for print training.

1970S THE TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS HAS PLAYED ITS PART IN ROCK HISTORY. THE WHO’S ALBUM LIVE AT LEEDS HAD TWO TRACKS RE-RECORDED HERE.

A 50 FOOT FIGURE OF A WALKING MANNEQUIN WAS PROJECTED ON TO THE BUILDING FOR LIGHT NIGHT.

Creative spaces for independent learning On campus, students can use our well resourced Independent Learning Zones to support their studies - learning to study autonomously is one of the most valuable skills our students develop.

There are also two cafĂŠs run by our in-house catering team, one with an outdoor terrace and views over the city. With two acres of landscaped greenery nearby, students will also be able to enjoy the outdoor spaces.
