LECOM Celebrates Annual Student Scholarship Auction

Erie’s LECOM Student Scholarship Auction took place Nov. 16 at the Bayfront Convention Center, bringing together leaders, providers, professors, staff and students, and the greater Erie Community. The event included a dinner with both live and silent auctions, with all proceeds benefiting our LECOM Student Scholarship Fund.

LECOM Health Opens Adult Day Center

LECOM Health announces the grand opening of its new Adult Day Center located at LECOM at Village Square in Erie. The facility is designed to provide high-quality respite care and support for older adults.

Specialty Hospice Unit Opens at LECOM Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LECOM Health Employees Enjoy ‘Beauty and the Beast’

On Nov. 14, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place at LECOM Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the VNA’s new Specialty Hospice Unit. The fully renovated wing includes private rooms, a comfortable lounge, activities room, and beauty salon, and offers 24-hour expert nursing care, physical and respiratory therapy, and more. On Dec. 8, the Erie Playhouse invited our employees to "be their guest" at a special performance of "Beauty and the Beast." Employees were also treated to a candy bar and appearances by two employee cast members - Shari Gould (LECOM), and Colleen Prittie (Achievement Center of LECOM Health)!

NEW THIS YEAR: LECOM Winter CME 2025 to Take Place in January

Intelligent.com, a widely respected source for higher education rankings and research, recently raised the rating for LECOM’s online Master’s in Health Services Degree Programs.

This year’s LECOM Winter Primary Care Conference will take place at Peek’n Peak Resort in Clymer from Jan. 23-26. LECOM is offering 20 AOA Category 1-A lecture hours at the 2025 Winter CME plus an additional 8 at the 2025 Winter CME Pre-Conference.

LECOM School of Podiatric Medicine Chapter of American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) Hosts Workshop

The LECOM School of Podiatric Medicine Chapter of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) recently held a cadaveric skills workshop for second-year students at LECOM. Roland Ramdass, D.P.M., and Andrew J. Meyer, D.P.M., attended as representatives from ACFAS, the surgical certification board for doctors of podiatric medicine.

School of Podiatric Medicine Wins First Place in Marc A. Karpo Poster Contest

LECOM School of Podiatric Medicine’s Michael Hankins, D.P.M., (Acting Dean), Maria Trejo, and Austin Pense (Class of 2027), participated in the 8th Annual Marc A. Karpo Poster Contest at the Goldfarb Clinical Conference.

They won first place in the scientific category for their poster titled, “Prevalence of Common Accessory Ossicles of the Foot and Ankle in a Community Hospital Patient Population: A Retrospective Radiographic Study of 374 Patients in Northwestern Pennsylvania.”

LECOM Bradenton Adam Bobak Presents Research at Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology Adam Bobak, OMS3, recently presented a poster titled “Modulation of Hallmarks of Glioblastoma/ Multiforme by Bioactive Phytochemicals: A Preclinical Mechanistic Evaluation” at the Annual Meeting and Education Day of the Society for Neuro-Oncology in Houston.

LECOM Seton Hill Sigma Sigma Phi Induction Ceremony Takes Place On Nov. 7, nine dedicated second-year students were inducted into the LECOM at Seton Hill Chapter of Sigma Sigma Phi (SSP), an esteemed honor society that champions academic achievement, camaraderie among students, and the overall advancement of osteopathic medicine.

Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) Participates in Walk to End Alzheimer’s The Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) participated in Pittsburgh’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 19.

Five students attended the event. The group raised over $1,000 for the cause and challenges next year's group to double it or more.

Preston Lutz Awarded Grant to Attend SPEA Conference LECOM School of Dental Medicine Student Preston Lutz received a $1,000 grant to attend the SPEA (Student Professionalism and Ethics Association) Annual Meeting in New Orleans as part of an effort to establish a chapter at LECOM, which would be the first of any dental school in Florida.

LECOM Bradenton’s Jessie Clark Completes Rotation, Presents Poster in Las Vegas After completing an APPE rotation with AMCP, LECOM Distance Education Student Pharmacist Jessie Clark continued analyzing the impact of prior authorizations, step therapy, and quantity limits on medication accessibility, time to treatment, and other patient outcomes under the guidance of AMCP’s Chief Science Officer. She presented her findings at AMCP Nexus 2024 in Las Vegas.

Sigma Sigma Phi Hosts PBL and Pizza On Nov. 6, members of LECOM at Seton Hill’s Sigma Sigma Phi held the muchanticipated “PBL and Pizza” Event to share their best problem-based learning techniques with a group of enthusiastic first-year students.

MCH Launches Expanded Hospitalist Program

Millcreek Community Hospital has launched an expanded Hospitalist Program. Dr. Blair Gorniak will join Dr. Eric Milie and his colleagues to focus on delivering high-quality care and ensuring that every patient receives the attention and care they need from admission to discharge.

The service manages a wide range of medical conditions that have been increasing in complexity and works closely with specialists and other healthcare providers. With a focus on quality, the service aims to provide personalized care to every individual, comprehensive management to ensure all aspects of care are coordinated effectively, and collaboration with primary care physicians to ensure smooth transitions of care.

Attendees had the opportunity to win prizes and earn CE credits.

Residents at the LECOM Senior Living Center recently enjoyed decorating Christmas trees, a festive activity that spread holiday cheer throughout the center.
