In the ever-evolving world of body modification and piercing, few artists manage to stand out with their unique blend of creativity, skill, and advocacy. Kaia, known professionally and affectionately as Fambie, is one such piercer who has carved a niche for herself in this intricate and often misunderstood craft. Her story speaks volumes about the power of passion and the importance of embracing individuality. Fambie’s entry into the world of body piercings happened rather by accident. Unsure of her future course, she became fascinated with the world of piercings while in college. This interest had been fueled by her father’s rewards for academic success, “In my freshman year of high school when I did well in school, my dad always took me to get piercings.” Her career trajectory began with an apprenticeship under piercer Finn, thanks to her persistent pursuit of an opportunity to work in a piercing shop on Saint Mark’s Place in New York City. Fambie’s clientele grew naturally as a result of convenient walk-ins and a growing reputation of successful healings and piercer-client comfort. “I always have gratitude for any client that I have,” she says. Her talent and dedication soon caught
the attention of notable figures, including rappers like Lil Uzi Vert, which helped her to expand her popularity and influence. However, what really binds Fambie and her customers together is their mutual appreciation of body alteration as a form of expression and their personal connection to it. “My clients are very special people. The reason I think they’re special is because they hold body modification dear to them as a form of expression which is how I feel about body modification. It’s something that’s transcending and becoming palatable for society,” she explains, “at one point, piercing was taboo, so I think that people in a day and age where social media promotes certain pictures, it’s really cool to celebrate individuality. I think that body modification is a form of that.” Even with her flare and confidence, Fambie acknowledges that even she gets anxious sometimes, especially when doing more complex piercings like facial dermals or genital piercings, “I think the reason why it is so nerve-wracking is because a person is entrusting you with her body and their well-being.” Her honesty about the challenges of her craft adds a layer of authenticity and relatability to her persona. Fambie’s experiments with play piercing and her openness to trying out new piercing locations—often motivated by her mentors Finn and Phil and the larger body modification community—further demonstrate her dedication to pushing the limits of body modification. “As I became more knowledgeable of certain people in the game, it naturally acted as a catalyst for me to want to do something different.” Fambie’s personal piercing experiences, including self-piercing, have helped her hone her skills and broaden her knowledge regarding pain and discomfort and the healing process. “I know if I’m going to provide a service to clients, I should be able to be willing to do that for myself. It lets me improve my technique,” she states, highlighting the importance of self-experimentation in professional development. In addition to enhancing her technical proficiency, this direct involvement has increased her empathy for the struggles faced by her clients. She notes, “I would say that it’s human nature to be nervous. You know you’re going to be inflicting pain on yourself, so naturally, you’d get nervous. It’s definitely something that has allowed me to better manage my pain and compartmentalize the sensation of it. It helps me better navigate what to expect,” offering insight into how her personal experiences have enriched her professional empathy and understanding. Outside of her professional life, Fambie draws strength from her support system, including her parents and roommates, who have been instrumental in her journey. She highlighted the endless love and support from both her mom and dad and the high value she places on their perspectives. Outside of the family, Fambie’s life is enhanced by her roommates, Erica and Salome, whose driven, sweet, and authentic personalities motivate her every day. “I’ve been really blessed to have people that live with me that are so amazing. I can’t imagine my life without my girlfriends,” recognizing the significant influence these friendships have
had on her personal and professional life. Adding to this personal circle of inspiration is her mentor, Phil, whose extraordinary stories, skills, and guidance in the intricate art of body modification, including suturing, have been pivotal in Fambie’s growth as a piercer. Fambie’s innovative approach to piercing was spectacularly showcased in a piercing runway show, a concept that brought together models adorned with multiple piercings in a celebration of body art and community. The event was not only a technical achievement but also an emotional milestone for Fambie, proving the power of shared artistic vision and collaboration. Fambie’s reflections on the experience underscore the intense pressure and responsibility she felt, “throughout the day, I don’t think I had ever been under so much stress. The main thing I tried to be mindful of is you are the glue. You are the mold and everything crumbles if you fall apart. Once all the models were ready, I couldn’t believe it. It was unreal. After the last model walked, I definitely cried. It was so cool, so special.” Her words paint a vivid picture of the event’s profound impact, both on her and the participants, marking a significant moment in the celebration of body art.
Looking ahead, Fambie is excited about exploring new avenues within body modification, “my next big step is probably going to be subdermal implants,” a modification to the body that is placed beneath the skin, allowing the implant to heal and produce an elevated design, “it’s mind-blowing to me,” she adds. Nevertheless, she is steadfast in her desire to use body piercings as a means of social and personal expression, always looking to break expectations and embrace uniqueness. For aspiring piercers and enthusiasts, Fambie’s journey underscores the importance of persistence, creativity, and the courage to follow one’s passion, even in the face of uncertainty. Her story is a testament to the idea that embracing one’s unique path, with all its twists and turns, can lead to unexpected and rewarding destinations. “Everyone’s journey is different. A no is never the end of the journey, they’re all the more a reminder of how badly you want something.” In her own words, Fambie captures the optimistic attitude of what lies ahead and the potential of the future as she looks forward with excitement: “I have a whole bunch more in store. 2024 is really my year. I hope I can continue coming across amazing people and to continue having unimaginably amazing experiences.” This expression of her excitement for the
future also demonstrates her dedication to innovation, community, and art. Fambie’s story serves as a tribute to the transformational power of passion and perseverance, reminding us all that the canvas of human experience is boundless, and the potential for growth and discovery is infinite.

ATTENTION!
A NEW WEST COAST
SENSATION
4th Hour is a West Coast Asian rap group that will have you hooked and begging for more. Working with one of my favorite music groups of all time was my highest honor. From cadences, different vocal personalities, and the versatility of beats, every song channels the perfect summertime vibe — there is nothing they can’t do. Being obsessed ever since I stumbled upon their music, I took a deep dive into how they met, when they started, and how everything came about. Entering the music game between ages 16 and 17, it was made known that their talents had to be revealed sooner than later.
From Clothing Brand To Music Group .......The Birth of
What started as a clothing brand name became the official title of the renowned music group. With the 4 of them, it only made sense. 4th Hour members include S2J, Kev November, 310Jay, and AVI. DJ KZY is the group’s designated DJ and has appeared on a few 4th Hour tracks. Each
artist brings their flow to each song, making every piece of music a certified hit. What feels like an overnight sensation was destiny in the making for years. This group of friends had known each other since adolescence. Everyone grew up and currently resides in Carson, California. Kev November met KZY in elementary school and S2J, 310Jay, and AVI in middle school. Everyone’s bond solidified at the Academy of Medical Arts in high school. They ran Carson High School! KZY was class president, and the group represented the yearbook club for years. AVI, being a year older than his friends, was able to fully connect with everyone on the quintessential Big Bear Cabin trip.
We owe it to Kev November for forming this group. Since he had already made beats and attempted to make a few tracks with S2J and 310Jay, he decided to bring all his equipment to the cabin trip for fun. DJ KZY fully organized the trip — little did they know this would change the trajectory of their lives forever. The three friends started recording like usual and then suggested that AVI jump on a song since his brother (KAYPEE) was already a successful rapper. In just one take, AVI was a natural-born lyricist. From then on, music was being made as often as time allowed. The Big Bear trip gave us the self-titled “4th Hour” EP. “BBY SCAMMER” was the first song created by the group. The beat, adlibs, and vocals make this EP a West Side Sensation. This initial “4th Hour” collection of songs laid the groundwork for the rest of the coming vibes. Since its release in 2021, 4th Hour shows us that you no longer need to search high and low for music that tickles your senses.
The New West Coast Tape &Future Projects
Before the release of B&B2, the group formed a collaborative album alongside other artists on the rise titled “The New West Coast Tape,” featuring TMG.Ju, Bonnie.D, Hypecmoney, IamLilCREEDTAVO, Traakoo, and more. Together, they
FLAVoRS
call themselves “The New West Coast.” 4th Hour will also appear on the official “DO WHAT I WANT SOUNDTRACK,” produced by JFERRER & LOKO MOKO. DWIW’s vision is to empower emerging artists and creatives, making 4th Hour the perfect pick for them.
Every moment leading up to this bands connection with each other and their rhythm was solidified.
From then on, the crew recorded at Kev’s and Jerome’s (310Jay) houses. Six months later, their first-ever album, “Flavors,” was released. Fully recorded at Jerome’s home, each song represents a “flavor.” This is a concept they had not seen from anyone before, and to their advantage, nobody does the unthinkable like them! Hits like “Cherry, French Vanilla, and Gelato” were products of this masterpiece.
The passion felt from this album makes it almost edible
2022 consisted of singles after singles — 4th Hour made “Bloom, Nina/Tina, Tele, Sweet Talk, HMU,” and more leading up to the EP I had first discovered them from — “Blunts & Bottles.” Four songs were all needed to sell anyone booking a one-way flight to California. “Switch, Slow Motion, Boujee Slide, and Sundress” make up this no-skip EP. Nothing says West Coast like these sounds. This work of art immediately takes you to a house party in Cali. It’s cold out, but you feel as warm as ever. You used to feel regular, but now you’re untouchable You used to have no game, and suddenly, these four guys have you walking around surrounded by beautiful girls. You’re unstoppable. Nothing will be the same after you experience “Blunts and Bottles”
&Beyond..
The heavy traction and appraisal from Blunts & Bottles was followed by music videos, yearly concert events by the self-managed team, frequent music drops, and simply doing everything to give the fans what they want while staying true to their sound. In February of 2023, the crew of lovers gifted us “4 Luv” right before Valentine’s Day. This seductive, harmonious EP was the perfect box of chocolates for all lovers. They continued the EP movement with “PRE GAME” which was released at the start of the 2023 Summer, along with the single: “Splash,” ensuring everyone’s summertime functions are turned all the way up! They ended the season in the most classic 4th Hour fashion and blessed us with “Blunts & Bottles 2.” The highly acclaimed sequel was everything we could’ve hoped for. The continuation of the B&B saga was composed of enhanced vibes inspired by the original project, along with six additional songs and features from distinguished West Coast artists such as Hypecmoney and Lil Keith.
