Introduction During the pressing situation pertaining to the spread of Corona virus and in an effort to protect our students and professors from the current endemic, we developed an online learning document that contains all the information needed to run online courses and facilitate the access of lectures to students all over Lebanon and through the internet. The following document contains step-by-step guidelines for most of the free programs available that allows the communication between different parties. Some programs allow online lecturing while others allow recording of lectures and then emailing the students the recorded lectures.
A- Recording your course as video 1- Voice over PowerPoint Voice over PowerPoint allows one to record voice narration (and video on Office 365) as a PowerPoint file. After recording the voice,one can save the presentation as a video and share it with students via Google classroom, Blackboard, Moodle, OneDrive, etc.‌
Steps to follow: 1- Check the sound settings and the recording devices: right-click on the speaker icon
2- Choose the microphone you want to use during the recording session. In case you have several microphones connected to your laptop, disable the unused ones and keep the microphone you will be using enabled

3- Test your microphone and check whether the levels on the right of the chosen microphone lights up in green. 4- To set up the speakers, go to “playback” then choose the speaker you want to use and disable the ones you will not be using. Right click on the chosen speaker and press “test”, if you are able to hear the ringtones automatically emitted by the computer which means that the speaker is working well.
5- Open your PowerPoint file, make sure it is saved under .pptx format. 6- Save a copy of this file where you will add your narration to keep your original file untouched 7- To record your narration, go to “slide show”, then “record slide show”, then a. “start recording from beginning” if you want to start the narration from the first slide of the PowerPoint file b. “start recording from current slide” if you want to start the narration from the selected slide

8- A recording box will open in the upper left corner of the presentation. This box can be used to control the following: a. The arrow: to jump to the next slide b. Pause: to pause the recording. After pausing a presentation, a new box will appear to let you resume the narration. c. Current timing: shows the time of narration spent on the current slide d. Replay: If you wish to repeat the narration on the current slide e. Overall timing: Total time spent on the overall presentation
9- During the recording, you can use a pointer or a pen to write on the slides. You can use these options by clicking on the pen as shown in the figure below or by right clicking on the slide then choosing “pointer options�

10- Once you finish the recording, press Esc. The speaker on the bottom right of the slide indicated that a narration was saved on the selected slide.
11- If you made any mistake and you want to replace the narration of one slide by a new one, click on “clear timing on current slide” and “clear narration on current slide” as shown in the figure below
12- To replace the deleted narration, start recording from the current slide. Record your narration then press Esc without going to the next slide to avoid losing the narration of the next slide. 13- To preview the narration, press on “slide show” tab then “from the beginning” 6
14- Save your work as .pptx file then save it as a new file having a “PowerPoint Show.ppsx” format. This format is useful to be uploaded on Moodle, Blackboard, ….
15- You can also save your file as an mp4 video. This option will take few minutes to be processed 16- If you are using office 365, the same steps can be applied with additional features like using the camera along with the voice narration. The figure below shows the available options during

B- Free Online Classroom Platforms 1- Google Classroom
Steps to follow: 1- Go to : https://classroom.google.com/h 2- Log in using your google account (gmail) 3- Below is the home page of google classroom.
4- Create a class by pressing on the (+) sign indicated by an arrow on the figure above

5- Choose to create a lesson
6- Select “I have read and understood….” Then “continue”
7- Add now the name of your course, a section, the object and room then click create. 8- You will now reach the homepage of your course

9- In the stream section (Flux here) you can add announcements for your class. You can allow your students to post and comment on the stream
10- To create an announcement, press on “share information with your class”. You can type your announcement and add files by selecting the “Add” icon
11- Under “upcoming”, you will find any work that is due soon and reminders for tests. You can specify the time when you want to publish your announcement by choosing “Program” and then choose the day and time

12- In the menu command, you will find all your classes, your calendar, the to do list and the settings of your classroom
13- Under the classwork tab (Works and Homework) you can create, assign and grade all the work of your class by pressing on the “create� icon

14- By choosing “duty� you will reach the following page
15- You can create the assignment, choose the grading, specify a deadline, create a word document or slides

16- If you choose to add slides, you will be directed to the following page where you can create slides and share them with your students
17- The created file will be added to the assignment as follow. You can specify if your students can modify the document or read it

18- You can also create an evaluation grid to grade your students
19- Under “People� you can find your students list and other teachers.

20- You can invite students by adding their emails. They will then receive an email to join your class. You can also share the course code with your students to join the course.
21- To control the settings of your course, press on the settings icon You can modify your course’s information.

22- You can also choose if your students can post and comment in the “flux” section
23- And modify the settings used to grade your student’s work.
C- Cloud video conferencing software 1- Zoom Zoom is a cloud video conferencing tool that offers video, audio, and online screen-sharing experience across multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Androids, and iOS. When using a free version of Zoom: a- You can have a meeting with 1 or 2 people during an unlimited time b- You can have a meeting with 3 to 100 people but for 40 min only c- New link will be used for every meeting which might be a limiting point 16
d- Record locally the meeting or the presentation
Steps to follow: 1. Go to : https://zoom.us/support/download to install the software
2. Once installed, you can join a meeting without signing in. it is better to sign in in order to be able to start your own meeting and schedule your meetings as well 3. You can use your Gmail in order to sign up 4. After signing in, you will reach the following screen
5. To schedule a new meeting, click on “Schedule�. You can choose the timing for your meeting and duration. Keep in mind that for the free version of zoom, your classes are limited to 40min. You can then schedule more than one meeting to cover a longer period of time. You can also choose to start with the video on or off and choose to which calendar this meeting should be added (google/outlook) 17

6. Share the meeting with your students by sending them the meeting link and if you add a password to this meeting
7. Starting a new meeting to record your presentation then share it later on with your students
8. Before staring, you can test your microphone and speaker by choosing “Test Speaker and Microphone�

9. Go to “Manage participants� to see who is participating in this meeting. You can also mute or unmute all the participants

10. To put your questions or answer student’s questions use the “chat” option

11. Before starting to record your video course, it is better to check your video settings to make sure that the camera is working, the angle of the camera is correct,‌
12. To share your documents during the recording, use the “share screen� icon

13. Either you share your desktop is you want to share several files with the students during the course session but be careful that your notifications will also appear during the course. White board help you to write or draw your explanation.
14. You can share your PowerPoint presentation only to explain your course. You can stop sharing by pressing on “stop share�

15. To draw or write on the PowerPoint slides, choose “Annotate�
16. When you stop recording, zoom will process your video and open the folder where it is saved so you can send the video to your students or upload it to a learning platform
2- Skype Skype is a free software that can be used for online live courses. In order to call all your students at the same time, you should create a group including all your students then save this group as a contact. You can then call your students for an online live course; you can share with them any document you want to share. The most important point is that you can share your desktop which means that you can run your PowerPoint presentation and explain it live while the students can read the slides and watch/hear your explanation.
