State of Play GREETINGS, As I write this we are experiencing our world, and the outdoor world in particular, from an utterly changed perspective. Yet, I am grateful to reflect on the tremendous accomplishments of the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in 2019, as we marked 25 years of long strides in protecting the natural world. Our keystone restoration program, Hot Spots, surpassed 100 parks and protected areas benefiting from our work. We also advanced the research that the Center has long offered, showcasing the effectiveness of Leave No Trace education. The Center wrapped a three-year Zero Landfill Initiative research program at three of the country’s most visible national parks: Denali, Yosemite and Grand Teton. The organization also established new partnerships with state and local tourism groups, helping us reach people as they plan their outdoor adventures. Change is on the horizon — in 2019, and continuing into 2020, we laid the groundwork for the Center’s new strategic plan, one that will chart the course for Leave No Trace over the next 25 years. That effort was marked by careful scrutiny of what we do most effectively, in-depth discussions with key stakeholders about critical issues of the environment, and gathering public input to ensure that we continue to expand the diversity and inclusiveness of our movement. We believe there is an irrefutable link between the way we live our lives and how we conduct ourselves in the outdoors. Not only are we conducting human dimensions research on the subject, but we also intend to expand our scope to reach more people than ever before. With that, please enjoy our 2019 Impact Report. While our world is somewhat wrought right now, I am finding great harmony and solace in being out in our natural world. I hope you are finding it too. YOURS IN THE OUTDOORS,
Dana Watts Leave No Trace Executive Director

FINANCIAL REVIEW
2019
SUMMARY FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2019 In addition to programmatic successes the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics celebrated another strong financial year in 2019. Total Education and Outreach Program spending increased 15 percent over the prior year, allowing us to further our mission and reach new audiences. This was a direct result of increasing grants and sponsorships from partners, as well as increased program service fees for research and consulting projects. The accompanying summary financial information is derived from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethic’s audited financial statements. The complete audited financial statements and annual tax return are available for download on our website, www.LNT.org.
