Dear LMA Member,
Together, We Can Keep Men in the Game
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in England and we need to keep talking about it Every 45 minutes, a man dies from prostate cancer. Around 500,000 men in the UK are living with the disease right now, and its impact extends to families, teammates, and communities. It’s about time that changed and thanks to longstanding supporters like the League Managers Association (LMA), we’re making vital progress.
But there’s still a long way to go.
Despite the scale of the issue, there is no national screening programme for prostate cancer. Half of all men wrongly believe they’ll be invited for a test. The truth is, they won’t.
Lack of awareness and action puts lives at risk, particularly Black men and those with a family history, who are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed. The current system is failing these men, and that’s why we’ve been calling for change.
Two years ago, we submitted powerful evidence to the National Screening Committee, urging a review. A decision is expected later this year - one that could be game-changing for men’s health in this country. The path to diagnosis is captured in this short video: The path to early diagnosis: what is a screening programme?
Once again, we need LMA members like you to stand shoulder to shoulder with men to prevent needless deaths from prostate cancer. We are working with the League Managers Association to deliver a campaign where we will ask you to wear a “Man of Men” badge this October.
You have a unique platform which reaches fans, families and policymakers alike to deliver a powerful and potentially lifesaving message. Promoting the video and wearing your Man of Men badge on match days can raise awareness, challenge misinformation, and show decision-makers that the time for action is now.
We’re so grateful for the support the LMA members have given Prostate Cancer UK since 2014. Together, we can keep men in the game for longer
