PLANNING AND DESIGN OF SECOND SPORTSPLEX UNDERWAY
With the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex at capacity, League City is moving forward with the planning and design of a second sportsplex to be located near Calder Road and Ervin Street. Tentatively named Bay Colony Park, Phase 1 of the park is slated to feature five youth softball fields, a trail, restrooms, scoring facility, concession stand, parking, and maintenance building.
The City has hired TBG Partners, who also designed Hometown Heroes Park, to develop master design concepts for the future sports-focused park. TBG presented two preliminary concepts at a meeting this past fall. Both include two soccer/ football/lacrosse fields, five softball fields, four baseball fields, and four tennis/pickleball courts. Additionally, both plans include room for a 5K trail loop, a playground, concession stands, green space, and a large detention area that could be used as practice fields when dry.
Funding for Phase 1
TBG Partners has designed two preliminary master plans for Bay Colony Park. Citizens can provide their feedback by emailing League City Parks Director Chien Wei at Chien.Wei@leaguecitytx.gov.

The City’s 4B corporation has approved $1.5 million to fund the planning and design of phase 1 of Bay Colony Park, as well as up to $6.8 million for construction. 4B funds are collected from a portion of local sales tax dollars set aside specifically for amateur sports facilities. League City also plans to apply for a Texas Parks & Wildlife Department grant to help fund the new facility.
Mountain Bike Course Coming Soon
Citizens asked for it, and now League City is moving forward on the design of a mountain bike course at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside. Based on feedback from recent surveys and requests from a local mountain bike group, the City has hired Clark Condon Associates to provide preliminary engineering and design services for the new course, which will include a low-water crossing bicycle crossing from the developed trail along Magnolia Creek into the undeveloped portion of the park. Completion of the design is expected in the spring of 2021.
