Ian Laughlin served 11 years in the Army as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, where he solved people’s problems, before being medically retired for injuries sustained in combat At a loss of what to do, he continued his education and became interested in data analytics Ian managed to obtain a position with Novetta (since acquired by Accenture Federal Services) doing his interest Since then, he has grown to lead AFS’s National Security Portfolio’s Law Enforcement Analytics, serving clients such as the FBI, DHS, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau Ian’s first civic activism dates to when he was 16 and spoke at a meeting about placement of high-powered electric lines In his free time, Ian likes to hike with his son, camp, garden, and tinker with anything and everything

Program Management Director / MJAT Program Manager | SAIC James Lee

James Lee is the MJAT Program Manager with SAIC For the past three years, he has been leading the production and fielding of a government owned simulator for the USAF MQ-9 Reaper Prior to taking the helm as the program manager, he was the lead systems engineer responsible for the development of the simulator for the Joint System Integration Laboratory In his eight years with SAIC, he has been a part of a dedicated team of professionals growing the project from a subset of the UAV’s training requirements to the Air Force’s program of record for MQ-9 training Leveraging eight years in the Air Force, as both an air refueling and reconnaissance pilot, he transformed his operational experience into a successful career as systems engineer focused on aircraft simulation Outside of the office, he can be found playing, coaching or refereeing soccer

Senior Development Officer | University of Alabama in Huntsville

Dr Helen Lien serves as the Senior Development Officer for UAH Athletics and the Colleges of Education and Nursing She graduated from Smith College with a BA in Biochemistry and received both her MEng and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute A native of Texas but a long-time Huntsville resident, Helen came to UAH in 2021 as the Annual Giving Officer and quickly rose to the position of Major Gifts Officer With her help, UAH achieved a recordbreaking year of donor gifts Helen serves on the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s Ambassador Council, volunteers with Boy Scouts of America, and contributes to Rocket City Mom as a guest writer She enjoys hiking, backpacking, camping, and caving with her husband and daughter
