Welcome from the Director of Sport

There is a real sense of momentum building across the campus this term – not just in how much is happening, but in how our students are going about it. They are training with intent, competing with pride and supporting one another along the way. These are the moments that matter. The long-term impact of sustained involvement in sport on confidence, resilience, teamwork and character will be significant. It is great to see that journey unfolding day by day with our younger students.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support from home. It makes a genuine difference. Ensuring your children are in the right kit, ready to train and fully committed to fixtures helps set the tone for everything we are trying to achieve. But it goes beyond that. Doing the basics well in sessions, picking up litter on the boundary, tidying away equipment at the end – these are the habits that shape environments. They reflect care, respect and consideration for others.

An old friend and mentor of mine used to say, “We have all got to carry the water.” It has stuck with me over the years. No one is above the small jobs. In fact, those small, often unseen actions are what bring a team and a community together. We are working hard to instil that mindset in our students, and your support in reinforcing it at home is invaluable.

We started the week with an excellent visit from Dan Richardson (Sports Nutritionist), who spent time with our Year 7 and Year 8 students. His sessions were engaging, practical and pitched brilliantly, encouraging students to think more carefully about how they fuel their bodies for both performance and wellbeing. What stood out most was their level of engagement: thoughtful questions and general appetite (see what I did there…) to learn!

I am really pleased that parents will also have the opportunity to hear from Dan directly. We will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday, 5th May, 7:00–8:00pm, with further details and the link being shared on Friday, 1st May. I would strongly encourage you to join if you can, as it promises to be an insightful and helpful session for you all.

We are also excited to be launching our Sports Webinar Series in partnership with Independent Coach Education. Our first session will be led by Andy Key, focusing on Preparing to Perform.

Andy brings over 25 years of experience working in high-performance sport, and what I particularly like about his approach is how relevant it is beyond elite environments. Through his work with Fit4Performance, he has developed a Mindset Skills framework that centres on mental resilience, emotional control, discipline and thinking clearly under pressure. It is a timely reminder that success is not just about physical or technical ability; it is also about how we respond in key moments. That message feels especially pertinent at this stage of the term, and I know it will resonate with both our students and wider community.

Finally, a personal thank you to our staff. The care and commitment they bring, day in, day out, ensure that so many students have access to meaningful and enjoyable sporting experiences. There is a great deal happening behind the scenes, and it is all driven by a shared belief in the value of what we do.

We are proud of the direction we are heading and determined to keep building on it.

Wishing you all a great week ahead – see you online on Tuesday, 5th May!

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
