Welcome from the Director of Sport

What a busy few weeks! This half-term has once again been a brilliant reflection of what makes our College and Prep School community so enjoyable to be around. Participation levels continue to be incredibly pleasing, and as the Summer Term rolls on, the energy from everyone across the cricket pitches, tennis courts, athletics areas and wider programme has been excellent.

What has stood out most over recent weeks is not just the level of involvement in sport, but the way the students are managing such varied and busy schedules with such positivity. Between dance shows, Forest School, House Music competitions, rehearsals, fixtures, training sessions and everything else in between, the children have been outstanding in how organised, enthusiastic and adaptable they have remained

Between us all, school and home, the children really are getting such a varied and impressive experience. I have no shame in admitting I am slightly biased, but the opportunity our young people have to be active, involved and exposed to so many different experiences in sport is something quite special, and long may this continue.

Last weekend, I also had the pleasure of attending the Year 13 Leavers’ Ball and spending time speaking with many of the students and families as they prepare to leave Seaford. As someone who is still fairly new to the College, I was amazed at just how often sport, trips, fixtures, team environments and, for some, Prep School memories came into conversation. There were plenty of stories being retold, some perhaps becoming slightly embellished for entertainment, but underneath all the laughter was a genuine appreciation for the role Seaford had played in shaping their experiences and friendships.

It was a real privilege to be invited and, if I am honest, it reinforced exactly why we all do what we do. Because it does matter. The opportunities, the environments, the people and the memories genuinely stay with our young people long after their Seaford days. We know the value that being active, involved and connected in teams brings to all of us, and Saturday was a great reminder of that.

This coming week is slightly quieter on the fixture front, with more residential trips pencilled in (bring the wellies, children… and perhaps the waterproof socks while you are at it). We do still have some girls’ cricket fixtures taking place, alongside House Cricket for the boys, which always brings a unique level of competition, excitement and the occasional highly ambitious appeal from somewhere behind square leg… “Not out!”

We are also looking forward to welcoming in our rugby masterclass with Joe Jones for the Year 7 and 8 students who have signed up. Opportunities for the students to learn from people within the professional game are always hugely valuable, and we are excited to see them get stuck in.

While the half-term weather appears determined to end on a slightly damp note, the enthusiasm and engagement from the students certainly has not. As always, thank you for the role you all continue to play in supporting the programme, the College and the opportunities available to the children. It will always make a huge difference, and I believe it sets us apart.

When we return after half-term, preparations for Sports Day will begin to ramp up alongside another busy block of cricket, tennis and golf fixtures and activities.

Until then, I hope you all manage to enjoy a well-earned and restful half-term break.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
