Wednesday Sports Programme - 16/09/26

Seaford College SPORT Wednesday, 16 September, 2026 th

Welcome from the Director of Sport This week we move into a full block of fixtures and events, with five different sports featuring across our competitive programme. For age groups without a fixture, quality development sessions provide equally valuable time to build skills, confidence and prepare for the season ahead. Last week’s Junior Prep School Cross-Country was a fantastic occasion. The campus was buzzing with activity, with students, staff and supporters creating a brilliant atmosphere. Seaford was extremely well represented, with individual medals and excellent finishes, topped off by our U11 Girls winning the team category. We now look forward to the Senior Prep Cross-Country this Friday – hopefully with just as much energy left in the legs! Saturday was equally busy, with all of our rugby matches and many hockey fixtures hosted at Seaford, alongside Golf and Outdoor Sports. A huge thank you to our Operations and Sports teams for making it happen, with a special mention to our Grounds Team, who have worked tirelessly to ensure our students can fully participate. Simply amazing. As we settle into our usual weekly rhythm, please revisit the start-of-term letter and ensure the relevant actions have been completed. SOCS will shortly become our central platform for sports and fixture communication, so please activate your parent account and link it to your child. The travel ‘from fixture’ option also needs completing before fixtures – it makes a considerable difference to our registers, transport and logistics, while saving us from becoming detectives at the end of a fixture! This Wednesday is National Fitness Day, and this year’s theme, ‘Powered by You’, feels relevant to what we are trying to achieve at Seaford. The national campaign is centred on the idea that physical activity is for everyone, regardless of age, experience or starting point, and that small positive steps can build habits that last. That philosophy aligns with the ethos of our Games and PE curriculum. We want students to have shared experiences by being part of a team, learning alongside friends, competing, winning, losing and sometimes discovering that cross-country is enjoyable once you have finished! Alongside those experiences, there must also be different access points into physical activity. Not every student will find their place in the same sport or at the same time. For us, ‘Powered by You’ means helping each student discover what being active can look like for them. That might be competitive team sport, individual development, recreational activity, strength and conditioning, outdoor pursuits or simply discovering an activity they genuinely enjoy. Our responsibility is to provide an inclusive and purposeful pathway that develops the skills, confidence and positive habits to remain active beyond Seaford. This closely reflects National Fitness Day’s emphasis on accessible opportunities and lasting participation rather than athletic performance alone. For me, modern-day fitness extends beyond what happens on a pitch or court. Nutrition, recovery and the choices we make each day all contribute. It therefore feels fitting that our School Food provision has recently received the Food Excellence Award for our region. A huge well done to our Catering Team – this is thoroughly deserved recognition for the quality and variety they provide for our students every day. Monday dinner duty is always a good opportunity for me to catch up with students. Our young people are engaged and becoming increasingly self-aware about their health and wellbeing; I feel we are doing something right. So, while Wednesday gives us a national day to celebrate fitness, the bigger ambition is what happens on Thursday, Friday and every day afterwards. Shared experiences, different opportunities and positive choices all contribute to helping our students find their own route to being active. ‘Powered by You’, supported by Seaford Sport.

Medical Provision This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process. One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’ Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the

experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College. We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
