As we move through another busy week of the Prep School sport programme, it has been a pleasure to see the continued enjoyment and commitment shown by your children across all areas of school sport. As Director of Sport, it is important to recognise the sustained effort of the staff who make this possible. Long days, late evenings, full weekends and significant time spent away from school are all part of life, particularly during the Spring Term. Despite this, the planning, session design and delivery remain purposeful and of a consistently high quality. That often unseen consistency is something the department takes great pride in, and as we embark on the final week of this half-term, I would like to formally recognise the immense efforts of the team. I think we can all agree that this is contributing to a fantastic experience for our young people.

We have also recently hosted our 11+ and 13+ Sports Experience Days, which were a real highlight. It was excellent to see the curiosity of the participants and to welcome them into our sporting environment for the day. These events have also facilitated valuable conversations about the direction in which we hope to take Seaford Sport, and how we can continue to improve the experience for all children, particularly in relation to aspirational athletes and sports scholarships.
Our thinking is increasingly informed by contemporary research in youth sport and physical education. Researchers such as Jean Côté, David Kirk and colleagues working within long-term athlete development have consistently highlighted the risks associated with early specialisation and rigid selection pathways. More recent work has reinforced the idea that certainty too early in a child’s sporting journey can limit development, motivation and enjoyment. Instead, the research advocates adaptable programmes, broad participation and a focus on skill development, confidence and a lifelong love of physical activity. This aligns closely with our desire to create a modern school sport and PE environment that prioritises growth, learning and personal bests over early labels or fixed outcomes.
It has been particularly reassuring, through recent conversations with parents, guardians and carers, to hear how supportive many of you are of this approach. That shared understanding is hugely important, and it is something we will continue to build upon as we strive to deliver a programme that reflects both best practice and the needs of our children.
Working to our personal bests motivates us each day as staff involved in Seaford Sport. Being able to support and guide your children towards the same purpose is a genuine daily joy for the department.
As half-term approaches, we hope you and your families enjoy a well-earned break. If you happen to spot a slightly bedraggled-looking sports teacher in the supermarket, a smile or a quiet nod of appreciation would be warmly received –purely optional, of course, but very much in the spirit of the term.
To conclude, may I take this opportunity to thank all of you who continually support and contribute to the many positive aspects of life at Seaford College, and in this context, our sport programme. When visitors come to the school, it gives us immense pride to hear that families have been recommended by other parents or have heard positive things through external events. It is an exciting place to be, and we are delighted to be on this journey alongside you.
See you in a week!

This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the
experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
