Seaford College SPORT Wednesday, 9th September, 2026
Welcome from the Director of Sport A very warm welcome back to Seaford Sport, particularly to those families joining us for the first time. There is excitement among the staff as we begin another year of Prep School sport. Following our internal review of the Prep Games programme, this year we have returned to age-group teams. We want students to enjoy a shared sporting experience with their year group, representing Seaford together within the team in which they are selected that week. Importantly, selection remains fluid throughout the season. A team selection is a snapshot of where a child is at that particular point; it is not a label or a destination. Young people develop at different rates. Confidence, physical development, understanding and performance will all fluctuate, so movement between teams is a healthy and expected part of school sport, especially at this age. A friend of mine recently explored this as a guest on a coaching podcast, discussing the idea of the “Golden Triangle” – Player. Coach. Parent. The principle is a simple one: all three need to be taken on the journey. It particularly resonated with me as both a coach and a parent at Seaford. When it is your own child playing, naturally you want them to succeed, feel included and enjoy their experience. Above all, you want to know that the people working with them genuinely care about their development. That is something we should never lose sight of. For us, this means creating a genuine partnership with our families. There will inevitably be weeks when a child is delighted with a performance or selection, alongside others when they may be disappointed. The consistency of the messages they hear at school and at home can make a significant difference to how they respond to those moments. Learning to deal with selection, challenge, success and disappointment is part of what makes sport such a valuable educational experience. Ultimately, we are not simply building teams; we are building a sporting community around our students. Good communication is central to that. We want parents to feel part of the journey, while encouraging our students to develop their own voice, speak with their coaches and gradually take greater ownership of their sporting experience. Our fixture list is small but mighty this week, with the full Seaford Sport programme gathering pace over the next couple of weeks. For now, the priority is getting students back into school routines, enjoying being active with their friends and beginning to build those team connections again. A small practical reminder as we get underway: please ensure students have the appropriate Seaford sports kit for the weather with them from the beginning of the week, including a water bottle. Please also make sure that everything is clearly named; it makes an enormous difference for the Astro clean-up! Alongside this week's programme is a letter regarding SOCS, our school sports platform. Please take a few minutes to read this and begin familiarising yourself with the system. Very quickly, we will reduce the number of individual emails arriving in your inbox, with SOCS becoming the central place for the live information relevant specifically to your child, including team selection, fixtures, timings, locations and travel arrangements. There is a huge amount to look forward to this year. We want our students to compete, develop, experience being part of a team, make memories with their friends and, above all, enjoy representing Seaford. Ad Alta!

Medical Provision This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.
Additional Medical Support To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.
Wet Weather and Cancellations As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process. One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College. We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
