Welcome from the Director of Sport As we welcome in the New Year, it is a pleasure to see our Prep School sports programme back in full flow and to extend a warm welcome to all parents and visitors supporting fixtures this week. Your encouragement on the sidelines remains a vital part of the sporting experience at Seaford, and we are delighted to begin another year of shared commitment to positive, purposeful school sport. The recent weather has certainly provided some seasonal challenges, but the Seaford community has rallied superbly. Through flexibility, teamwork and a solutions-focused mindset, staff are working hard to ensure that as much physical activity as possible remains on offer for your children. Whether adapting fixtures, training formats or facilities, our priority continues to be keeping students active, engaged and enjoying their sport. As we enter the Spring Term, we are also reviewing how we use SOCS, our online school sport platform. Over the coming weeks, further information will be shared on how we can support you more effectively in accessing fixtures, activities, timings and key information in a clearer and more efficient way for your households. Furthermore, as mentioned last term, we are placing greater emphasis on the post-match function. This is a crucial part of the learning and wider sporting experience, helping students to reflect, socialise and develop respect for teammates, opponents and officials. From this week onwards, all students will be encouraged and expected to take part in this aspect of the fixture. A note will be sent out from Mrs Forsyth outlining these procedures, but please note the following collection arrangements: After away fixtures, staff in charge will escort students to changing rooms and match teas. If you wish to collect your child from an away fixture, you must sign them out directly with the member of staff in charge at the match tea venue. For home fixtures, the member of staff in charge will escort students to Wilberforce once the post-match hospitality has finished, where they will be collected in the same manner as a normal school day with that member of staff. These processes will not only enhance the overall experience for your children but will also ensure staff supervision is as clear and robust as possible. To finish, I reflect briefly on a recent article exploring the idea of sport as social architecture. Notably, it considers how junior sport quietly builds (or sometimes breaks) habits of connection, belonging and character. It highlights that the moments around competition, shared experiences, respectful interactions, post-match conversations and simple routines are often where the deepest learning occurs. This is an area we have long prided ourselves on in Seaford Sport, and over the course of this term we are committed to being even more intentional in how we shape these experiences for our students. An exciting 2026 lies ahead, and we are delighted to have you and your families as part of this journey. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Medical Provision This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, external Medical Company and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process. One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends.
