Seaford College SPORT

Saturday 25th /Sunday 26th January 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Visitors,

I am delighted to welcome you all to Seaford College this weekend.

Sport plays a central role in the co-curricular and social life of the College, bringing our community closer together. At Seaford, we firmly believe in the harmony of ‘sport for all’ and ‘performance sport.’ We recognise the value of the behaviours and skills that emerge through sport –behaviours that empower young people to achieve excellence, whatever path they take beyond Seaford College.

Our extensive competitive fixture programme, recreational opportunities, and out-of-season coaching provide platforms for all our student-athletes to thrive. Whether testing their skills in a competitive environment against quality opposition or simply developing their abilities, every student has the chance to flourish.

As a sports department, we are committed to fostering a visionary, student-centred environment that is inclusive, enjoyable, and challenging. Through a focus on hard work, creativity, resilience (GRIT), competition, decision-making, and reflection, we aim to develop independent learners capable of adapting to the everchanging world of modern sport. Our ultimate goal is to help each student achieve their personal best along the Seaford sporting pathway.

We believe that development drives performance. Through sport, students not only achieve their personal bests but also develop essential qualities and attitudes that will serve them well both on and off the sports field.

Seaford’s stunning grounds provide the perfect setting for sport, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our sports, grounds, estates, and catering teams for their tireless efforts in preparing for today.

Good luck to all the teams competing this weekend. Embrace every moment, and strive to be the best you can be both on and off the field. Remember our non-negotiables – Effort, Energy, and Enthusiasm – and keep our core values of RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, and TRUST at the heart of all you do.

Enjoy the day and thank you for your continued support of Seaford sport.

Subject: Seaford College Southern Tens 2025 – Event Cancellation

Dear All,

It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Seaford Southern Tens tournament, which was due to take place this Sunday, 26th January.

After carefully reviewing the state of the pitches following the significant rainfall over the past week, alongside the Met Office’s Yellow Weather Warning for heavy rain and high winds exceeding 50mph, we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the event. Ensuring the safety of players, coaches, spectators, and staff is our top priority, and these adverse conditions would compromise not only safety but also the overall playing and spectator experience.

This was not a decision we made lightly, as we know how much excitement and preparation goes into this event for everyone involved. However, we strongly believe this is the most responsible course of action under the circumstances.

We would like to thank you for your understanding and continued support of Seaford Southern Ten’s, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please rest assured that we are already looking ahead to next year and opportunities to bring everyone together again for a fantastic rugby experience.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and we hope to welcome you back to Seaford College very soon.

Kind regards,

Liam

Medical provision

This Saturday, we will be supported by the Seaford College physio team, and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support – Return2Play – Reminder!

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet weather and cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the College site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead whilst onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount. Please note the Golf Course is out of bounds for dog walks. As always please collect and dispose of all dog waste!

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved, players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators, and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford and I believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we asked all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents, and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the side-lines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
