Welcome from the Director of Sport
I think it is fair to say that the weather has tested everyone’s patience over the last fortnight. While we always pride ourselves on getting fixtures played wherever possible, there have unfortunately been occasions where cancellations have been unavoidable. It is always a last resort and particularly frustrating during the Summer Term, which already feels all too short. We know how much students, staff and parents value these opportunities, so thank you for your understanding when Mother Nature has had other ideas!
The positive news is that brighter conditions appear to be on the horizon, and we have certainly not let the weather dampen spirits. Credit must go to our staff (especially our Grounds Team) and students, who have adapted brilliantly to ensure training sessions remain purposeful and enjoyable despite the interruptions. Flexibility and resilience are valuable sporting qualities, and we have seen plenty of both recently.
As we head towards the final few weeks of term, the sporting calendar remains incredibly busy. Cricket fixtures, athletics competitions and cup matches continue to provide opportunities for students to represent Seaford, while preparations for Sports Day are entering the final stages. We have a few subtle additions and refinements planned this year, designed to maintain the traditions that make the event special while enhancing the overall experience. Rest assured, the competitive edge between our five Houses remains firmly intact.
Away from school sport, there is also plenty to look forward to on the international stage. World Cup fever is beginning to build, and it has been great to hear students discussing upcoming events and planning which matches they will be watching. Major sporting occasions have a wonderful way of inspiring the next generation and creating lifelong memories.
On a personal note, my sporting spectator highlight of the past fortnight was the opening match of the State of Origin Rugby League series. For those unfamiliar with it, State of Origin pits Queensland against New South Wales in what I believe is one of the greatest annual sporting contests in the world. It is a rivalry built on pride, identity and passion, where every tackle, carry and decision seems to matter that little bit more. The quality is exceptional, the atmosphere incredible and the drama rarely disappoints.
This year’s opening encounter certainly lived up to expectations. Packed stadiums, tribal support, momentum swings, moments of brilliance and a contest that went right to the final whistle. While we may not quite attract 50,000 supporters to our touchlines, there is something wonderfully familiar about our big internal sporting events for the students. The pride in representing your House, the camaraderie among all age groups, the healthy rivalry and the desire to contribute to the overall outcome all form an exciting part of the sporting journey at Seaford.
That is why House Sport remains such an important part of the Seaford Sport experience, and why we are all looking forward to one of the highlights of the year: Sports Day!
Whether you are backing Queensland or New South Wales, or Adair, Corsica, Millburgh, Kymes or Charmandean, remember that sport is always better when there is a little healthy rivalry involved.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
