Welcome from the Director of Sport
One of the quieter highlights of my school week is the moment I make time to take stock by watching a training session unfold, hearing the chatter before fixtures or seeing students support one another without being asked. It is often in those small, unplanned moments that you gain the clearest sense of what our sporting environment really looks and feels like. Since the start of the Summer Term, it has been fantastic, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

A big thank you to those who joined us on Tuesday evening for the Nutrition Webinar with Dan. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement. There were some great questions raised throughout, and, if nothing else, I hope there were at least a few dinner table conversations that followed, with some genuine “food for thought”.
A quick reminder that our first fortnightly webinar with Andy Key is now available and linked on the next page. We are excited about this series and the opportunity it provides to continue connecting and developing our students’ thinking around sport at Seaford.
This weekend also brings our final Open Morning of the year, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming prospective families and students. As ever, thank you for the role you play in this. We so often hear that it is conversations with current parents and sharing your experiences and stories that lead others to take an interest in Seaford.
Over the past week, I have had a number of really valuable conversations with parents. Some were brief chats, others a little longer; however, all shared a common thread: people who care deeply about what we are trying to build here.
As we begin planning for the next academic year, I have found myself reflecting on something we often see in sport and teams. We talk about values – respect, honesty, effort – and they are all important. However, if we are honest (and we should be), simply writing them down or saying them out loud does not magically bring them to life. If it did, I would be in peak condition just by sticking “get fit” on the fridge…
What shapes a culture, whether in a team or a school, is consistent behaviour. The everyday actions: turning up on time, how we speak to one another, the effort given when no one is watching. That is where it lives.
As we continue to develop Seaford Sport, there will naturally be moments when things feel a little new or different. At times, that may raise an eyebrow or two, and that is perfectly okay. Growth is rarely neat or linear; equally, alignment does not happen overnight. Through open, honest conversations, like those I have had this week, we move forward together with greater clarity and understanding.
At this stage of the term, I would like to extend our very best wishes to all students embarking on their public examinations. We recognise the balance between academic commitments and co-curricular involvement, we strongly encourage students to continue participating fully where appropriate and, when selected, to take pride in representing the College. As referenced in the recent letter home, proactive and considerate communication between students and staff will be key throughout this period, helping us to support students effectively while maintaining balance, wellbeing and opportunity during the examination season. Ultimately, it is not about everyone thinking the same way, but about staying connected in what we are trying to achieve together.
To those of you who have shared your perspectives, thank you. Your support, your conversations and your willingness to be part of it all genuinely make a difference. I often find myself scribbling notes down as soon as those conversations conclude.
Keep caring about Seaford Sport.

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
