Seaford College SPORT
Saturday, 6th December, 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport
First, an apology for the late arrival of this week’s notes. It is Friday afternoon, 15:30, and I am writing this from a very different sort of “touchline” Our son arrived safely earlier this week, and while it has been a joyful blur, I will keep things brief (or at least, Seaford-brief).
This week, the festivities have well and truly begun… and so has the heavy rain. A huge thank you to our outstanding Grounds team, who have somehow managed to keep our grass pitches playable despite the weather doing its very best to sink them. Unfortunately, even their magic has limits, and the House Rugby Festival has had to be cancelled, with the forecast for tonight looking particularly grim. The rain wins this round.

On a brighter note, we were delighted to host several OS Harlequins players this week. They generously shared their professional insight with our Senior Rugby squad as they prepare for the inaugural John Green Trophy on Tuesday, 9th December. We welcome Northampton School for Boys to the Oval, a team who have been rampant this season, but a big legacy demands a big game, and we are very much looking forward to it. The fixture will be live-streamed by NextGen, and all details will be available via our Seaford Sport social channels.
The Prep School also deserve enormous praise. Between nativities, Christmas fairs and an impressive number of sporting highlights, their week has been a wonderful blend of singing and scoring. From the stage to the sports hall, the Seaford kids give their all.
This weekend brings a full slate of sport, including an external running event, where several of our parents and students will be competing individually under the Seaford Sport banner. Good luck to all involved – and you may want to pack your goggles!
Finally, a short reflection. During the many hours spent in hospital this week, I found myself watching the medical staff caring for my family with such calm brilliance. Even when the door was closed, I could not help but wax lyrical about them. It was a clear reminder that what you say and how you act matters deeply. Our reputations are not built in the big marquee moments, but in the quiet conversations; in how we treat people when there is nothing to gain; in the integrity we uphold when nobody is watching.
In sport, legacy is shaped not by the scoreboard but by the small behaviours that add up: the unseen work, the character shown in tough weather (quite literally this week), and the way you make others feel. So, perhaps a good question for all of us is this: if you left the pitch, the changing room, or the classroom, what would people say about you? How would you have made them feel?
Enjoy the weekend’s sport, the start of our Seaford Christmas celebrations, and the community around you as we embark on the final week of term.
As the students say, Up the ‘Ford!

Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme. Blue Blood – Seaford
