Seaford College SPORT
Thursday, 20th November, 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport
Unfortunately, we had to delay this week’s programme due to the inclement weather having a significant impact on our usual Wednesday afternoon matches. Earlier in the week our U11 Rugby boys set the tone with an excellent showing at the IAPS tournament, competing with real spirit to finish 4th. It was a brilliant day of rugby and a reminder of just how quickly this group is developing.

It has also been pleasing to see continued momentum within our U13 swimming group, who are steadily growing in confidence and commitment under the guidance of Miss James. Their progress is encouraging, and it is great to see this area of Seaford Sport gradually strengthening.
Away from the pitches and pools, I had the pleasure of attending a conference this week at Allianz Twickenham Stadium, although, of course, everyone still just calls it Twickenham, no matter how many sponsors try their luck, and I cannot see that changing! The day offered some brilliant insight from outstanding speakers, including Will Greenwood and Nigel Redman, but there was one small part that has stayed with me.
The message told was about being a version of yourself you can be proud of. It came alive through a story about Michelangelo, who, when asked how he created the Statue of David, replied: “All I did was chip away everything that didn’t look like David.” The idea is eloquently simple. Each day, each session, each performance can place extra layers on us from tiredness, frustration, distraction, a tough result, a bad night’s sleep – but we always have a choice: to chip away at the unhelpful bits and reveal the version of ourselves we want to be.

For our young athletes (or any context you wish to apply this to), this message feels incredibly relevant. Growth in sport is not a straight line; it is a process of refining, improving and choosing who you want to become. Being proud of yourself is not about being perfect; it is about daily decisions, small behaviours and consistent effort. It is about recognising when the “extra weight” does not look or feel right and choosing to chip it away to maintain the best version of you.
As we move into another busy week of fixtures, I am reminded once again how pleased I am of the way your children and our staff represent Seaford, through their effort, attitude and growing understanding of what it means to “chip away” and become a version of themselves we can all be proud of.

Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
