We gather this evening Lord God, in your loving presence, to give glory to your name. As we conclude the school year we give you thanks for the gifts you have bestowed on us. You have blessed us by creating us in your own image. We praise you for the opportunities to be a loving presence in the lives of the less fortunate. We thank you for the times we have shared together with staff and our peers at work in our learning endeavours and at play in the various co-curricular activities. We thank you for the sporting prowess of our teams and competitors and the encouragement of our coaches who guide us. We honour you for the leadership skills that you have given to our students and staff members. May we continue to exercise these talents to truly act as people for others. We thank you for the academic endeavours of all our students who strive for the Magis, and our staff who seek to be true to our Mission and Vision Statement developing “articulate, adaptable, discerning and confident young men and women of conscience committed to living the values of Jesus Christ in a global community”. A former Loyola College Captain (2008), Nic is currently employed as a Director in the Global Strategy Group of professional services firm KPMG. Nic specialises in Business Strategy - working with some of the largest corporate, nonfor-profit and public sector clients throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific region. A lifelong learner, Nic completed a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Melbourne) after graduating from Loyola College in 2008 and has continued to add to his academic credentials, completing his studies as a certified Chartered Accountant (CA) with the institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand; Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Queensland; Entrepreneurship Studies at Harvard University; and studies in Corporate Strategy at Copenhagen Business School.

Alumni Award from St Patrick’s SJ Old Collegians Association (SPOCA)
Founded in 1854 and located adjacent to the Cathedral, St Patrick’s College East Melbourne was the first Catholic secondary school and pioneer seminary for priestly formation in Melbourne. In 1865 it was entrusted to the care of the newly arrived Irish Jesuits. As their earliest work and oldest school in Australia, it was the source of over 250 priests and many civic and sporting leaders over a 114 year period. Although the school closed nearly fifty years ago, its Alumni Association (SPOCA) continues to provide ongoing support for the works of the Australian Jesuit Province, to foster fellowship contacts between many of its 400 members and to be the custodian of the history and spirit of the College. Tonight, the perpetual award, sponsored by the St Patrick’s SJ Old Collegians Association, will be given to the graduate of Loyola College who is deemed to be living up to the school motto and Jesuit ethos of “Justice, Mercy, Faith”. 28
Family Awards Alonso Family Award The Alonso Family Award is presented annually to a VCE VM Small Business student who has applied themselves to their studies, demonstrating motivation and striving to achieve to the best of their ability. The award has been instituted by Dianna Alonso - a long serving member of Staff and past parent of the College - recognising the importance of students choosing an alternative pathway and acknowledging their applied learning skills and the importance they represent in the workplace.
Tony Chirico Year 7 All Rounder Award The Tony Chirico Year 7 All Rounder Award has been established by the Chirico Family in memory of Mr Tony Chirico. Tony Chirico was a teacher at Loyola College for 14 years holding the position of Deputy Principal - Administration and Personal Development from 2009 to 2015. Tony was an exemplary educator, colleague and friend to the Loyola College Community. The recipient of the Tony Chirico Year 7 All Rounder Award should aim to achieve academic excellence across a number of subjects. They should be willing to help others and make selfless contributions when required. This student should demonstrate exemplary personal conduct at all times and be a strong role model for other students. They should be willing to participate in school and community activities, represent the school without necessarily being a winner and participate enthusiastically in all aspects of Loyola College life.
Di Martino (Companion) Family Award The Di Martino Family Award was instituted in 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic as a means to encourage the values of fairness, empathy and service to others. This award is presented annually to a student who has displayed the value of walking with others (companion). The recipient will have supported their peers throughout the year to face challenges and adversity along with celebrating with them in in times of joy.
Kennedy Family Awards With commission funds provided as Executor of the will of the late Miss Anne Patricia Kennedy, Mr John Kennedy instituted five perpetual awards in memory of family and gratitude for support received as Foundation Principal (September 1979 - January 2008). Alocoque (Anastasia Mary) Kennedy Award for Leadership Sr A. Kennedy, OP, onetime leader of the South Australian Dominicans. Another family member, Sr. Patricia Kennedy, OP is serving in Pakistan. William Ormond Kennedy Award for Christian Service (Fr W. O. Kennedy, PP, Rockhampton Diocese, from Dolla (Ireland) in 1949). Henry Ernest Kennedy (L: 20-21) Award for Religious Education (Mr H. E. Kennedy, Jesuit novice, service in both World Wars, and other walks of life). Patricia Kennedy Award for Legal Studies (Miss A. P. Kennedy, BA, LLB was Deputy Chancellor, La Trobe University). Philip Kennedy Award for Media (Bishop P. J. A. Kennedy, DD, BA, LLB, Dip.Soc.Admin., Auxiliary Bishop of Adelaide). 29
MacManus Family Award The MacManus Family Award has been instituted by Patrick MacManus who has been employed at Loyola College since November, 2009. This Award is presented to a student who demonstrates an outstanding attitude and commitment in all aspects of College life and recognises resilience, determination and a willingness to always strive to always do one’s best regardless of challenges faced.
Monteneri Family Award The Monteneri Family Award is one that recognises the selfless contribution/dedication by a student in raising funds for Loyola College and charities in the broader community. Mark Monteneri (LPFA President), and his family have worked tirelessly for the College in organising and coordinating charitable events/activities and raising much needed funds for the College. With three children attending Loyola, the Monteneri Family endeavour to always display the Ignatian values, of “giving back”, and with dedication and commitment, always participate in charity events both internally and externally to Loyola College. This award is presented annually to a student who has displayed the Ignatian value of being a person for and with others. They will have demonstrated initiative and dedication in raising funds for charities, arranging charity fundraising drives and/or participating in large scale charity events (including charitable causes internal or external to Loyola College).
O’Keeffe Family Award Lynne O’Keeffe passed away in January 2002 and was held in high esteem by the Loyola College Community through a number of key parent groups, including being the founding member of the ‘Hot Food Days’ (original school canteen) and a member of the Second-hand Book Sale Management. Lynne’s two sons attended Loyola, Andrew (L: 96-00) and Michael (L: 92-97, 09-12, 17-23). Established after her death, the O’Keeffe award acknowledges outstanding excellence in the area of performing arts. The recipient should demonstrate a strong commitment to the performing arts and musical theatre program at the College and set a high standard of performance.
Perizzolo Family Award The Perizzolo Family Award was instituted in 2012 by Alumnus, John Perizzolo who attended the College from 1981 to 1986. After studying Civil Engineering and having the good fortune of managing a number of major construction projects in Melbourne, John Perizzolo and his family decided to acknowledge the contribution that Loyola College has made to his career and family life. The Perizzolo Family Award is presented annually to a Year 12 student and seeks to provide due recognition for his or her hard work and achievements as well as acknowledge qualities such as leadership, dependability, cooperation, initiative, and dedication to one’s academic studies. The Award seeks to generously support a student as he or she prepares to further their education beyond Loyola College with tertiary studies at either University or TAFE. 30
Pola Family Award This award is presented to a VCAL student who has successfully undertaken both a TAFE program and excelled in their work placement outside of Loyola College. Alongside their commitments outside of Loyola College, this student has been an active, committed student in their VCAL program, making positive contributions to the learning environment. The award seeks to acknowledge students who are taking an applied learning pathway. John Pola himself learnt through applied learning, running a successful Electrical and Refrigeration business for over 60 years. During his lifetime he understood the importance of practical and applied learning pathways that allow young men and women to be successful.
Staub Family Award The Staub Family Award was instituted in 2021 by Shannon Staub, on behalf of her two daughters, both current Loyola students. Shannon commenced at Loyola in 2002, and since that time has been a passionate Food Studies Teacher, Mentor Teacher, Head of Xavier House, Student Programs Co-ordinator (10-12) and Head of Co-Curriculum. The contribution for this award is an acknowledgement of the important place that Loyola has held in the Staub family’s life for nearly two decades. This award is presented annually to a student who is a person of influence and inspires their peers to ‘strive for the Magis’. They should be willing to help others and make selfless contributions when required. This student should demonstrate exemplary personal conduct at all times and be a strong role model for other students. They should be willing to participate in school and community activities, represent the school without necessarily being a winner and participate enthusiastically in all aspects of Loyola College life.
College Medals Loyola Medal The Loyola Medal is awarded to a current or former staff member, Canonical Administrator or chaplain who has given service in a pastoral or professional capacity and has shown loyalty and commitment to the College for an extended period of time.
Jesuit Medal The Jesuit Medal is awarded to a current or former parent or College friend who has given service in a pastoral, professional or leadership capacity and has shown loyalty and commitment to the College for an extended period of time.
St Ignatius Medal The St Ignatius Medal is awarded to a current or former student who has given service in a pastoral or leadership capacity and has shown loyalty and commitment to the College throughout his or her time as a student.
Insignis Award The Insignis Award is the highest award at an Ignatian school, awarded to a current student whom St Ignatius would have called a Companion. The criteria includes demonstration of leadership skills, being an exemplary role model for our younger students, a generosity of spirit and service, a consistent commitment in co-curriculum, a positive contribution to the learning environment and being a member of the Loyola College Community for at least two years. 31
