Retirees who become eligible for Medicare due to age 65 or Social Security disability must enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B. After enrollment, submit a Retiree Enrollment/Change Form and a copy of your Medicare card to Employee Benefits to enroll in the Medicare Advantage plan. Please submit your paperwork as early as possible. Coverage begins on the first day of the month following receipt of your Medicare card or your Medicare eligibility date, whichever is later. Do not delay. Late enrollment may cause claim processing issues, denied claims, and higher out-ofpocket medical costs.

Medicare-eligible topics

PRESCRIPTION

Retiree health insurance is bundled. By enrolling in a medical plan, you will automatically be enrolled in a prescription, dental and vision plan offered by LCPS. The medical, prescription and vision plans are different for each of the groups. Delta Dental is the sole dental provider for both groups. Please make note of the other plans that you have based on your Medicare eligibility.

Non-Medicare topics

MEDICAL

Medicare eligibility determines which plans you and your dependents are offered. Retirees and their dependents eligible for Medicare are required to enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B and are provided with a Medicare Advantage plan. Retirees and dependents not eligible for Medicare are offered enrollment in the Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP) or the Cigna Open Access Plus High (OAP HIGH) plan until they can enroll in Medicare.

OPEN ENROLLMENT Open Enrollment will be held October 15th — November 15th. This is the only time of year that participants in the OAP or OAP HIGH plans can change between plans. No action is necessary if you do not want to make any changes. Plan information including benefit summaries, informational videos and on-demand webinars, monthly premiums, prescription drug formularies and forms can be found on the Retiree Open Enrollment website at www.lcps.org/retirees > Retiree Open Enrollment, beginning October 15, 2026.

What is changing? Retiree and active employee premiums will be increasing by 20% for 2027. This change reflects the rising costs of healthcare services, prescription medications and medical technologies, which directly impact LCPS claims. These adjustments ensure we can maintain a comprehensive benefits package for our retiree community. Personalized letters detailing your specific 2027 health insurance rate will be mailed by the Employee Benefits team in December. In the meantime, you can review the upcoming health insurance rates by visiting the Retiree Open Enrollment website at lcps.org/retirees. Please note: $0 premiums will remain at $0 for 2027.

Be sure we have a current address so you can receive benefit information. If your address has changed, complete an LCPS Retiree Address Change form, email us at lcpshealthwellness@lcps.org or call us at 571-252-1810 no later than November 15.

Don’t Risk Losing Your LCPS Coverage Your LCPS retiree health insurance is a valuable benefit. There are some important Medicare rules you need to follow to protect your LCPS health insurance coverage from accidental cancellation: •

Say “no” to other Advantage or Part D plans: Enrolling in an outside Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan will automatically cancel your LCPS coverage. Before signing up for any new supplement plan, always ask if it includes Medicare Advantage or Part D. If it does, don’t take it unless you want to drop LCPS coverage.

•

Watch out for “Free” offers: Beware of misleading calls offering “free” coverage or claiming to be part of your LCPS benefits. LCPS will never call you to pitch additional plans.

•

Keep your Medicare Part B active: You must stay enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B. Make sure to keep up with your Part

B premiums (paid through Social Security or directly to Medicare). If your Part B lapses, your LCPS retiree health insurance will end. The bottom line: Enrolling in other Medicare Advantage or Part D plans or failing to pay your Medicare Part B premium will automatically cancel your LCPS coverage. Stay informed and act with caution.

Each Medicare-eligible retiree and dependent is enrolled as an individual policyholder for UnitedHealthcare (medical), CVS SilverScript (prescription drug) and Cigna Vision (vision) coverage. For Delta Dental coverage, the retiree remains the primary policyholder and any spouse or child is covered under the LCPS retiree's dental policy.

New Medicare Weight-Loss Drug Initiatives You may have seen news about recent federal initiatives designed to make GLP-1 weight-loss medications (such as Wegovy and Zepbound) affordable for retirees. We want to clarify how the current Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program works — and confirm that it does not change coverage available through the LCPS retiree or active employee health plans.

The medicare GLP-1 bridge program y T he Benefit: Eligible Medicare Part D enrollees can access select FDA-approved weight-management medications for a flat $50 monthly copay. y The Timeline: This is a temporary program running from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. y H ow it works: It operates entirely outside of your CVS SilverScript Part D plan. Your doctor must submit a prior authorization form to Humana, which Medicare has designated as the central processor for this program.

Important note about LCPS coverage This change applies only to federal Medicare and Medicaid programs. LCPS prescription drug plans do not cover GLP-1 medications when prescribed solely for weight loss, and we have no plans to expand this coverage. Note: GLP-1 medications remain covered under our plan if you meet specific medical criteria for other approved conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes.

For More Information To check your personal medical eligibility, review the strict clinical criteria or find out which specific GLP-1 drug formulations are covered, please talk to your doctor or contact Medicare directly: Online: Visit the official portal at Medicare.gov/coverage/weight-loss-drugs By Phone: Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) anytime, 24/7.

GOOD TO KNOW Health Insurance Credit: VRS provides retirees with over 15 years of VRS service with a health insurance credit based on years of service and VRS group. This credit is paid to you in your monthly retirement benefit. y I f your health insurance premiums are being deducted from your VRS retirement benefit, you do NOT need to notify VRS of any premium increase. This will be automatically updated. y I f you are paying your premiums directly to LCPS or other insurer, you will want to report any premium change to VRS through your online myVRS account or by completing a new VRS-45 form and submitting it to VRS. This will ensure you are receiving your maximum health insurance credit.

LCPS Premiums If you are paying your Retiree Health Insurance premiums directly to LCPS be sure to check

your January premium statement for the correct amount to pay. If you have auto pay set up with your bank, you will need to login in or call them to update the monthly amount for January. Please remember to make your LCPS premium payments on time. If your payments are not made by the due date (including any applicable grace period), your coverage will be canceled. Keep your benefits secure and don’t forget to submit your payments on time!

Save time by having one less check to write each month! Have your LCPS premium deducted directly from your VRS pension. If you don’t have this set up already, complete a VRS-78 form and return it to the Employee Benefits office or contact us at 571-252-1810 to request the form.

A link to the full Creditable Coverage Notice can be found on the Employee Benefits homepage at www.lcps.org/ benefits > Support > Regulatory Notices.
