Explore meteorology, the science of weather, and use your rain catcher to measure how much rain is falling. September 10 -Paper Airplanes: Discover how paper airplanes work and then create your own. Show off your flying skills and see what planes have the furthest flight, longest air-time, most accurate, and more. September 24 – Mummies: Explore the science behind mummification and create your own mummy. Travel to Ancient Egypt and discover how wealthy Egyptians had their bodies preserved after they died. Explore the process of mummification using hotdogs, then make your own mummy and sarcophagus. October 1 – Kindness Rocks: Spread kindness by creating colourful stones with inspirational messages. Learn about the power of positive messages and take part in spreading positivity in your community by painting your own kindness rocks. October 8 – Art Market: Use a budget to “purchase” art supplies in order create a masterpiece. Create anything you want using the provided art supplies, but you have to stay within your budget! Kids will gain financial literacy skills as they plan out their art projects, learn to budget, and practice paying for supplies. October 22 – Ultimate Library Challenge: Explore the Oil Springs Library through a series of challenges to become a Master Librarian. October 29 – Day of the Dead: Explore the celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) through games, crafts, and activities. Make a papel picado (a tissue paper craft) and decorate sugar skulls to learn about some of the traditions surrounding this multicultural celebration.

September 15 – Wreckable Journal: Discover the book that redefined journaling and make your own wreckable journal. “Wreck This Journal” by Keri Smith uses a series of creative and quirky prompts to engage journalers in the true creative process. Make your own “Wreck This Journal” - inspired pages, decorate a cover, then learn a simple book-binding technique to sew it all together. September 29 – String Art: Use pins and string to create a simple, colourful picture. October 13 – Making Paper: Explore the steps needed to create a piece of hand-made paper. Discover some of the types of paper made by different ancient empires and how each type was put to use, then learn how to make your own hand-made paper using recycled scraps. Monday, October 24 - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Try and solve a 100 year old murder case. Dive deep into a chilling murder mystery from March 1922. Six lives were taken at the Hinterkaifeck farmstead in Germany. one-hundred years later we will study a casefile with notes, timelines, suspects, and more. There will be discussion of dark or disturbing topics and children should not attend.

MURDER MYSTERY THEATRE

Monday, October 31 - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Are you intrigued by a good murder mystery? Socialize with other sleuths and work together to find the criminal. Participants will take the roles of various cast and crew members celebrating the completion of filming of a movie when their Director suddenly dies at the party. In the spirit of Halloween, you are encouraged to come incognito so others don’t recognize you. Wear any Hollywood costume props you may have to jazz things up a bit.
