Clearwater Library

The new Clearwater Library opened its doors on April 8 at 1400 Wellington Street, Sarnia inside the Clearwater Arena. The newly renovated space on the Arena’s second floor offers visitors a collection of 11,000 items, an early literacy station, a private meeting space and public computers. Watch for celebration event details and special contests later this spring.

Self-Serve Checkout

Now in addition to Sarnia Library, self-checkout is available at Brigden and Clearwater Libraries. Skip the line and use the kiosk to check out books, DVDs, and other items with added privacy and flexibility. Manage your account directly from the touchscreen stations and renew items easily. All you need is your library card to start, then follow the on-screen instructions. If you need support, the library staff are there to help you.

Vegan Zucchini Brownies

Dry Ingredients

3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar

1 1/2 cups (135 g) rolled oats, ground into flour using blender or food processor

1/2 cup (90 g) chocolate chips + more for the top

1/2 cup + 1 tbsp (50 g) cocoa powder unsweetened

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/3 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

1 1/4 cups (200 g) shredded zucchini, tightly packed

1/2 cup (120 g) nut butter of choice

1/4 cup (60 ml) plant-based milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Grease a 6x9 pan or line with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. Process all dry ingredients (except the chocolate chips) in a food processor.

3. Add all wet ingredients and blend until the batter is smooth. Add the chocolate chips and stir with a spoon.

4. Pour the batter into the pan and add more chocolate chips on top.

5. Bake for 30 minutes and insert a toothpick into the center of a brownie. If it comes out clean or slightly crumbly, the brownies are done. For cakey brownies, bake for an additional five or ten minutes.

6. Store brownies in the fridge for up to five days.

Early Literacy

Give your child a head start on at Lambton County Library. Early literacy is what kids know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. Lambton County Library offers a variety of programs that help foster early literacy, family literacy and lifelong learning.

Baby Rhyme Time

This 30 minute storytime includes movement games, rhymes, songs and stories to help your baby recognize colours, shapes, letters and numbers.

Decodable Readers are now available to borrow at Lambton County Library. Decodable Readers support your child’s phonic knowledge and reading fluency. Need help navigating your computer, tablet or phone? Trying to set up an email? Technical help is available at all 25 libraries. Call your local library to book a one-on-one session with one of our staff members or register for one of these scheduled programs.

Makerspace Training

Receive one-on-one training on Makerspace equipment at Sarnia Library. Choose to be trained on the 3D Printer, Laser Cutter, Silhouette Cutter, Button Maker or Sewing Machine. Once trained you will be able to book time for independent use on the equipment. Registration required.
