Lumber drying operations, no matter the size, must provide a good quality product to maintain their customer base. Drying defects not only lead to product value losses but if passed onto the customer can lead to lost sales. The morning workshop is designed to assist anyone drying lumber from the small-scale lumber dryer to commercial drying operations. The techniques and information presented are relevant to both hardwood and softwood lumber drying operations. A good understanding of financial management is critical to manage and control the business. During the afternoon session, participants will start with a business simulation that will help you to understand financial statements including specific terminology. Participants will also learn to analyze financial statements uncovering current problems or discovering potential business opportunities. For registration information ONLY FOR THE SEMINAR, contact Angie Riegel at the Department of Wood Science and Forest Products at Virginia Tech; Telephone: (540) 231-7107; fax: (540) 231-8868; e-mail: ariegel@vt.edu Note: Angie Riegel provides registration information ONLY for the seminar - NOT for the exposition.
