Thursday, May 15, 2014 Two half-day workshops will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 on “Improving The Quality of Lumber Drying” and “Financial Management for Forest Products Business” at the Four Points by Sheraton. Lumber drying operations, no matter the size, must provide a good quality product to maintain their customer base. Drying defects not only lead to product value losses but if passed onto the customer can lead to lost sales. The morning workshop is designed to assist anyone drying lumber from the small-scale lumber dryer to commercial drying operations. The techniques and information presented are relevant to both hardwood and softwood lumber drying operations. A good understanding of financial management is critical to manage and control the business.

During the afternoon session, participants will start with a business simulation that will help you to understand financial statements including specific terminology. Participants will also learn to analyze financial statements uncovering current problems or discovering potential business opportunities.

Bandit Returns to Southern Forest Nascar in 2014 Products assoc.

ollowing a great 2013 NASCAR season with rising superstar Parker Kilgerman, Bandit Industries will return to the stage at Daytona International Speedway with Kilgerman in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on February 21. Bandit will serve as coprimary sponsor for Kilgerman, driving the No. 58 Bandit Chippers/North American Power Toyota for BRG Motorsports in the Nextera Energy Resources 250.

“When Bandit first got involved with NASCAR back in 2010, it was with Parker,” said Bandit’s Marketing and Communications Director Christopher Smith. “To be back with him at Daytona after the great season we had with him last year is very special to us. Parker is a great ambassador for Bandit, he’s an amazing driver, and he’s NASCAR’s next superstar.

When he takes to the track he’ll have Bandit customers all around the world cheering, not to mention our mid-Michigan community and the 400-plus employees at Bandit. We couldn’t be more excited to kick off the 2014 NASCAR season.”

Kilgerman echoed Smith’s sentiment, adding, “First off, I want to thank everyone at Bandit Chippers and George Bragg at BRG Motorsports for this opportunity. After our awesome race and fourth place finish at Talladega last year, I am looking forward to racing Daytona with one of my partners from years prior in Bandit Chippers. Hopefully we can have successful weekend and challenge for victory, just as we did at Talladega.”

he Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) Board of Directors has appointed Tami Kessler to serve as Executive Director. Tami has most recently served the association as Corporate Secretary and Director of Administration. Since she joined the staff in 1976, Tami has served in multiple capacities including accounting, 28 years as Director of Administration, plus two terms as director of SFPA’s Forest Products Machinery & Equipment Exposition.

“Tami brings a comprehensive set of skills set to the management of SFPA operations at our headquarters, and the Board congratulates her on this well-deserved promotion,” stated SFPA Chairman Joe Kusar after making the announcement at a recent Board of Directors meeting in Atlanta. “Knowing what she does about our daily operations, she is well prepared to manage the future progress of our association,” he added.
