Students at Oregon Charter Academy may participate in OSAA-sanctioned activities, like band, choir, and most sports at their local school district. High School Families: The law requires that your local district allow your high school aged student to participate in any OSAA sanctioned sport or activity, whether it is during the school day or outside of the school day.. You can check the OSAA website for a complete list of sanctioned athletics and activities. The district also has a legal right to charge both ORCA a school partnership fee, and they can also charge the family the standard student participation fee that they would charge any other student who attends the district. ORCA does pay the school partnership fees, but families are responsible for standard student participation fees. K-8 Families: This can get tricky at K-8. The law requires schools to allow ORCA students to participate just as described above BUT only outside of the school day. For example, if orchestra was an “early bird” or “zero” period, that would be outside of the school day. For K-8 families during the school day, the law changes. The district has the legal right to either say no, say yes but charge the family directly, or say yes and align with their high school policies because they know this is best for kids. Every district handles this differently, and they are within their legal right at K-8 to either say no or say yes with a fee to the family. We really appreciate the districts who treat their K-8 families like their high school families for this situation.

How to sign up for OSAA sanctioned activities at your local school: OSAA sanctioned sports and/or activities at the high school level only usually require our assistance. You may need this OSAA form which will be supplied by your local school district where your student plans to participate in the sport and/or activity. ● ●

Contact your local school's Athletic Department Secretary/Director for the form. Contact Carie McCormick, ORCA Registrar, for your student's most current high school transcript and email her your OSAA form (complete your part, but STOP at the checkboxes, and sign/date the bottom). Our registrar will send your student's transcript AND fully completed OSAA form - the checkboxes and our sign/date line - back to your local school's Athletic Secretary/Director and copy you on that email.
