English as a Second Language (ESL) is designed for the acquisition and rapid mastery of the English language, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills It usually begins with extensive listening and speaking practice, building on auditory and oral skills, and then move on to reading and writing. These courses provide an explanation of basic structures of the English language, enabling students to progress from an elementary understanding of English words and verb tenses to a more comprehensive grasp of various formal and informal styles and then to advance to “regular” English courses. ESL classes may also include an orientation to the customs and culture of the diverse population in the United States.

This course presents students with the conceptual underpinnings of computer science through an exploration of basic coding. Topics may include: human-computer interaction, web design, computer programming, data modeling, and robotics, among many others. While the course includes coding, the focus is on the practices associated with doing computer science, rather than just a narrow focus on coding, syntax, or tools. The course aims to teach students the practices of algorithm design, problem solving, and programming within a context that is relevant to their lives.
Mythology A/B

This course covers mythology, legends, and folk tales of Europe, North Africa, and possibly Asia. In particular, the course would focus on Grecian/Roman, Egyptian, Norse, Mesopotamian, and Celtic myths and legends. Chinese and Japanese mythology could be added, or saved for a future course.

This course focuses on the inter-relationships that occur between two-dimensional art forms using a variety of media and techniques, emphasizing observation and interpretation of the visual environment It may include: applying the elements of art and principles of design, a study of art and artists from a worldwide perspective, and instruction in the critique process. It may also encourage students to refine their creative process and develop their own artistic styles following and breaking from traditional conventions
Exploring Music

Pop Culture /Art History
Pop Culture Studies is an interdisciplinary elective that examines how popular culture reflects, shapes, and responds to society. Students analyze media such as music, film, television, social media, fashion, memes, advertising, and digital trends to better understand identity, values, history, and communication The course emphasizes critical thinking, media literacy, discussion, creative expression, and ethical consumption of media while building skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and visual analysis
Digital Content Creation
Digital Content Creation is an elective course where students explore self-expression and visual storytelling through the creation of digital media. Students will learn foundational design principles, layout and typography, digital illustration or design, image editing, and visual composition while developing original written and visual content. The course emphasizes creativity, voice, and experimentation as students plan, design, and publish their own digital media. Students will also analyze contemporary and historical zines, practice peer critique, and collaborate with peers
Public Speaking
This middle school Speech elective builds students’ confidence and competence as speakers and listeners. Students will learn how to organize ideas, speak clearly and persuasively, and adapt their message for different audiences and purposes. Through engaging, low-stakes practice and creative projects, students will deliver a variety of speeches such as personal narratives, persuasive speeches, informative talks, and multimedia presentations. Emphasis is placed on respectful listening, constructive feedback, collaboration, and managing speaking anxiety in a supportive environment.
Personal Finance
Money skills aren't just for adults and this course proves it. Students explore the essential building blocks of financial health, from budgeting and managing credit to investing and planning for the future. Through six hands-on units, students learn how to make smart decisions with their money, understand how taxes and paychecks work, protect themselves from financial risk, and start building wealth early. The course culminates in students creating their own personalized financial plan leaving with realworld skills they can use for life.
3D Printing/CAD
Students use industry-standard tools like AutoCAD and Fusion 360 to design, model, and bring ideas to life using makerspace equipment including 3D printers and laser cutters Through the engineering design process, students build foundational skills in technical drawing, prototyping, and materials preparing them for future coursework in engineering and digital design **This is a Middle School Introductory course to the High School Course**

Adaptive Physical Education (APE) is designed for students who need modifications and specialized instruction to successfully participate in physical education. Taught by a licensed Adaptive PE teacher, this class provides individualized support and adapted activities to help students with disabilities develop motor skills, coordination, physical fitness, and confidence in movement. Lessons are modified to meet students’ unique needs while promoting participation and enjoyment of physical activity in a supportive and inclusive environment.

In the Exploring Leadership course students will have the opportunity to demonstrate career specific leadership skills through classwork and participation in FFA events. Some examples are Public Speaking, Veterinary Science, Ag Sales and many more. Introduction to Cooking students will learn basic cooking skills and nutrition. Demonstrations through Live Class and guided instruction are used throughout the course. Ultimately, students will be given the opportunity to have the necessary skills to learn about kitchen safety, sanitation, kitchen equipment, cooking terms, proper measuring, microwave cooking, and basic cooking skills.

This Social Media course exposes students to various types of social media and how social media has influenced society. It may emphasize the forms, functions, regulations, implications, and utilization of social media.
Criminology: Inside Criminal Mind

In today’s society, crime and deviant behavior are often one of the top concerns of society members. From the nightly news to personal experiences with victimization, crime seems to be all around us. In this course, we will explore the field of criminology or the study of crime. In doing so, we will look at possible explanations for crime from psychological, biological, and sociological standpoints, explore the various types of crime and their consequences for society, and investigate how crime and criminals are handled by the criminal justice system.

This course builds a foundational understanding of the creative and conceptual aspects of designing and producing digital imagery, graphics, and photography. Students study the techniques, genres, and styles from multiple mediums and forms. This course is meant to prepare students for Digital Photography A/B.
Art in World Cultures

This course introduces students to the study of and foundation for many forms of art throughout the world and its cultures. The course helps students form an aesthetic framework to examine social, political, and historical events in the world and cultures and how visual images express the ideas of individuals and such cultures.
Art History

Art History introduces students to significant works of art, artists, and artistic movements that have shaped the world and influenced or reflected various periods of history. The course may emphasize the sequential evolution of art forms, techniques, symbols, and themes. Art History may also develop an understanding of art in relation to social, cultural, political, and historical events throughout the world, while covering multiple artists, aesthetic issues, and the evolution of art.

American Sign Language 1A and 1B

Designed to introduce students to American Sign Language (ASL) and prepares students to communicate authentically using ASL by interpreting (reading/viewing), exchanging (signing and reading), and presenting (signing) information on a variety of topics. Students will engage through self-recordings, recorded discussions and during live classes on camera with the teacher and each other. Students will learn the written form of ASL called gloss. ASL introduces the relationship among the practices, perspectives, history and cultures of deaf people and communities.
Math in Action 1A/1B: Alg. 1, Data & Geometry

Math in Action 1A/B is the first course of the four-year ASCEND math program. This yearlong course covers functions, statistics, and geometry topics building skills an applying them in authentic contexts. Students participate in a co-requisite Personal Finance CTE lab where they experience real-life applications in simulations. This course provides a math pathway focused on introducing relevancy with unique preparation for life, college and career. It emphasizes the use of mathematics to model and explore financial phenomena including interpreting and justifying reasoning to make data-supported financial decisions using algebra and probability and statistics to solve problems occurring in everyday life. It includes inquirybased problem units involving discretionary and essential expenses, independent living, employment, modeling a business, investing, credit, banking and mortgages. (Weighted grade honors course)
Co-Requisite: Personal Finanance 1A/1B

This is a co-requisite course component of the Math in Action 1A/B program and must be taken simultaneously. This course will provide work based learning simulations working in conjunction with the Math in Action program to fulfill CTE requirements and authentic application of the math curriculum. This course meets Personal Finance graduation requirements. Dual Credit available, BA 218.
NOTE: Completion of Math in Action 1A/B & 2A/B & Co-Requisite Courses will satisfy the Algebra 1, 2 and Geometry standards and two of the three math credits required for graduation. These courses can be followed by Math 111z and Math 112z (Dual Credit) and/or Explorations in Data Science (Dual Credit MTH 108). Students will also earn two CTE: Business credits.
