Welcome Welcome to the 2020 Annual Seashore House Tour Special Edition Save the date 2021 Annual Seashore House Tour Thursday August 5, 2021

Welcome to the 2020 House Tour With our fifty-four year House Tour tradition, this year we faced unprecedented challenges with public health concerns. Undaunted, we forged ahead to create this unique event to celebrate our island “homes” and the joy they bring to our lives. Highlighted are six magnificent homes from LBI’s eighteen miles celebrating architecture, design, and landscape. The House Tour is LBIF’s largest fundraiser, and all funds raised allow us to meet our mission to offer innovative arts and sciences and year round cultural programming to the community. We thank you for your support of this event and your donations to the LBIF. Our House Tour Committee thanks the homeowners for sharing their private spaces. Most importantly we thank our Business Community and their generous support of this important event. With sincere gratitude to all, Daniella Kerner Executive Director

About the Foundation Photo: Michael Spark

History Boris Blai our founder was a brilliant, visionary artist and educator. In 1948 he built the LBIF campus, having courage and imagination to transform 22.8 acres of sand and marsh into a center for the visual arts, performing arts, humanities and science. As a 72-year old institution we continue to build upon this foundation and his vision to offer excellence in cultural programing for the community and beyond. Arts Each year we host eleven group exhibitions with regional, national and international artists and artwork. Our exhibitions include Works on Paper, Plein Air Plus, special themed shows such as COMX, our Members/Student/ Faculty Show and a Holiday 2

Craft Market. Year round studio arts classes offer a variety of mediums to explore, including ceramics in our state of the art ceramics facility. Sciences Exploring our Nature Trail, being part of Discovery Days, Science Saturdays, and Barnegat Bay Days are some of the highlights of our eco-science programs. Experiencing our coastal habitats and the natural environment on our campus brings the eco-sciences to life. The LBIF is unique in the realm of art institutions by its desire to explore the intersections between the arts and the sciences. Weddings Our 22.8 acre campus and wetlands creates a spectacular backdrop to weddings and social gatherings. The opportunities

to be creative and personal with every detail are endless. We encourage eco-friendly solutions out of our concern for the environment and our coastal surroundings. Membership We draw inspiration from our idyllic setting; the earth, sky, and water that make Long Beach Island everyone’s ‘happy place’. Here, children create memories and adults enjoy unique experiences that define summertime at the shore. Being a member of the LBIF contributes to preserving our unique history, supporting our cultural mission of arts and sciences, and preserves this legacy we have inherited for future generations. Called “North Star,” this magical garden in Barnegat Light truly comes from the heart of its owners. Every detail is lovingly selected and cared for until each space shines with joy. So naturally, a North Star is etched in the grand entranceway that leads by bluestone pathways to such hideaways as an arched stone grotto of wine barrel buffet tables, set off by pots of cannas, purple verbena and petunias. Another turn displays custom ceramic pots of peach-colored hibiscus followed by a custom space for a daybed where guacamole hosta grows in dappled sunlight. Sun loving succulents decorate an outdoor dining space. A Victorian staircase of sliced stone banked by miscanthus grass, knockout roses, shore juniper and liriope is home to a tiny stone angel. Other pathways lead to the family’s pool, outdoor kitchen, and several decks. Careful sculpting of the gardens create perfect views of the lighhouse, inlet and the ocean.

Literally off the beaten track this High Bar Harbor home is an escape for a family of four. With its environmentally friendly design, this home provides year round comfort with no cost both in dollars and carbon footprint. An intimate connection with the site provides panoramic views of the bay while shielding awareness of nearby neighboring homes. The bay side windows facing south are all protected from the sun with overhangs with the exception of the top two windows which have a light shelf inside that disperses sunlight evenly through the family room. The sleek modern kitchen is connected to the screened in dining porch by two disappearing exterior pocket doors. On the second floor the family room creates the link between the parents and children’s rooms. The outdoor shower on this floor is open to the sky. While modern in style this home creates a timeless connection for the family to LBI.

In the luxuriant style of a galleon, “Ship Shape” melds art and functionality in three levels of beach front living. The waves and curves of the sea are reflected in the polished cedar, maple, mahogany and walnut throughout. A wooden ship’s rope wraps the house and leads to the ocean. The first level open living area is connected to the entranceway by a colorrich art glass elevator. The spacious kitchen has panels of beach glass and sand collected by the owner and lit from behind. On the same level the master suite revolves around a centrally placed bed with a glowing LBI clamshack painting overhead. A hideaway television rises from the footboard of maple inlays. The master bathroom features a soaking tub of walnut with a water source flowing from the ceiling designed by the builder. A sweeping, design winning staircase has a post-free, wrap around railing and leads to the second level.

There are three bedrooms on the second level with an entertainment room and a balcony that looks out to the ocean.

Fire flames reflect into a crystal pool as water drifts from a second pool perched above, both with outdoor television viewing. It’s just part of the entertaining atmosphere that surrounds this bay front house in Brant Beach. Uniquely designed in a striking Western Red cedar shake, the house features three levels of living space starting with a ground level family room adjacent to the pool. The first floor open space has a white on white kitchen with a black granite center island. An amusing touch is the bicycle shaped bar stools. An eight foot round Amish hickory table dominates the dining space. Two ensuite bedrooms are on this level, both with nautical themes. Upstairs a bright turquoise blue family room with hanging blue swings leads into the master suite. A two-sided fireplace is part of the suite. Welcome to a bay front sanctuary called “Beach Heaven” in Beach Haven! Beautifully landscaped on all four sides, the house brings spectacular bay views from three levels. The builder calls the style “ Country Seashore” with its Palladian windows, unique architectural corner flares, and octagonal shaped decks on two levels. On the ground floor is a 4-car garage, one with a pull–through. Easy summer living is in the first floor’s open kitchen, living and dining spaces with walls of windows and coffered ceilings, enhanced by shades of gray, rich deep blues and bright oranges. Up the stairs, or by elevator, are seven bedrooms, five with en suite baths. In the north wing, a large center bath is flanked by a custom built-in bunk bedroom and yet another bedroom to provide quarters for multiple grandkids. Up top is a roof deck.

Which would it be.....waking up to the sight and sound of the endless sea or soaking in the orange and gold of a bay sunset? How about both? This Americana modern house is at the tip of Holgate, with spectacular views of the ocean and the bay! The exterior is ageless white shingle and cultured stone contrasting with modern black window outlines. The ground floor family room leads to a children’s play space with a blue and white curtained bunk room for four+. Upstairs, guest bedrooms in coral pinks and teal are alongside a master suite sporting an open shower. The second floor open-concept kitchen/living and dining rooms is a stunning white on white palette highlighted with sea blue. A baby grand piano graces the space.
