Water that falls from the sky and lands on the ground (i.e. snow and rain)
• Bay’s eutrophication function of watershed development.
• Majority of development in northern part of Bay occurred before the stormwater rules.
• Result, inadequate stormwater management.
Barnegat Bay Partnership
● Some people think of stormwater as a waste product; we think of it as a natural resource
● Reducing the volume reduces the pollutant loading, as in Bio-retention and infiltration practices with no discharges.
● Controlling the peak flow (or first flush) does not reduce the volume.
● Minimum site disturbance preserves the natural path, retains the natural vegetation, and protects against soil compaction. Create a point system for not developing on a wetland, etc.
● Retrofit existing areas or “work with nature” to reduce the volume of runoff and pollutant loading. Make your stormwater into a resource -save the township some money
The group empowers citizens to advocate for the Bay on the municipal level and contributes to the cause of Save Barnegat Bay’s boots-on-the-ground mission.
All are welcome to join this group, regardless of past experience with attending local meetings. In 2023, Captains will meet the 4th Tuesday of each month from 4-5 PM.To join the team or for more information, emailAvery at Assistant@SaveBarnegatBay.org.
