Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women.

Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.

Are you worried about the cost?

CDC’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program offers free or lowcost mammograms to women who have low incomes and are uninsured or underinsured. Find out if you qualify.

What Are the Symptoms?

Pain in any area of the breast.

•

Nipple discharge other than breast milk (including blood).

Fast Facts About Breast Cancer Each year in the United States, about 264,000 women get breast cancer and 42,000 women die from the disease.

Men also get breast cancer, but it is not very common. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man.

Most breast cancers are found in women who are 50 years old or older, but breast cancer also affects younger women.

Hello everyone, looks like Fall has arrived along with chilly night, bright autumn colors and pumpkin spice everything. There will still be warm days. So our riding season isn’t over yet, but is riding season ever really over. Some of us still ride in rain, heat, cold and yes even snow. Please continue to ride safe keeping your knees in the breeze.

Motorcycle riding is one of the greatest joys in life. But you need to be okay with the emotional state it puts you in. Motorcycle riding is a combination of exhilaration, fear, relaxation, and pleasure that changes you forever. It’s physical & emotional pleasure, with a layer of anxiety & adrenaline. Riding a motorcycle can even burn calories.

The number of calories an average person can burn while riding is between 150 to 600 calories per hour and it depends on a lot of different factors such as your level of movement and effort while riding or the level at which you exercise your muscles while riding.

The most spectacular part of riding a motorcycle in the fall is enjoying the fall foliage with an unobstructed view. All those leaves are beautiful to behold—as long as they stay on the trees. Once they fall to the ground, leaves can easily change from being beautiful to being a danger. Fall can be enjoyable for motorcycle trips. The roadways are highlighted with breathtaking colors as the fallen leaves turn from environment-friendly to blazing oranges, stunning yellows, fiery reds, and deep purples. The warm sun on your face and a cool autumn breeze can make for an exhilarating ride.

The highways of East Tennessee flow like ribbons through the Appalachian Mountains. You will get breath taken views of our lakes, rivers, and streams of one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges. From the top of our mountains, you can view the colors of Fall. Fall is the season for all senses.

Riding this time of year offers us the feel of cooler temperatures after a long hot summer. A warm, visually pleasing palate of reds, oranges and browns and the smell of wood smoke.

Autumn is one of the best times to ride and experience the splendor of nature. There’s no better way to see the fall foliage than via a motorcycle ride through fields and forests.

On a bike, you’re immersed in the ever-changing panorama of foliage colors—unobstructed by a car’s roof and its pillars. Even a convertible places a frame in your line of vision.

On a motorcycle, you glide visually unrestricted through the majesty of the trees. Fall foliage season is very symbolic for us riders. It’s a yearly mile marker in our riding season.

The swelter of late summer is gone, transformed into the delightful daytime warmth and cool nights of fall. The trees tell us that temperatures are about to fall, as the leaves flutter to the ground.

It’s no secret when it comes to autumn cuisine, apples are the star of the show. For generations in the south, we’ve centered an entire season around this versatile fruit, making memories and family traditions in celebrating its harvest, from apple picking at the orchard to churning apple butter. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite quick, easy and (most important) delicious ways to enjoy fall’s favorite piece of produce, from hors d’oeuvres to desserts. And with these yummy recipes racking up the recommended apple a day, we should expect to keep the doctors at bay for quite some time!

My first and most underappreciated way to enjoy an apple is the simplest way- raw! There is hardly anything more satisfying than the tart-but-sweet snap of a perfectly ripe slice, but when perfectly paired with a gourmet cheese it’s positively heavenly. A classic duo that belongs on any cheese board has to be Granny Smith with Stilton bleu cheese. Whether you’re caught off guard by an unexpected visitor or aiming to impress a house-full of guests, serving up this quick and easy appetizer is sure to satisfy.

Pop open a bottle of fruit-forward Prosecco, lay out a variety of water crackers and enjoy!

Lately I’ve tossed together a few healthy handfuls of spring mixed greens, a diced tart apple, and sprinkles of dried cranberries (or raisins), pepitas (or pecans, or walnuts) and goat cheese. This harvest fruit-n-nut salad is perfect the way it is or add a piece of protein for a complete meal! You can either drizzle your favorite bottled balsamic or whip up your own dressing using EVOO, apple cider vinegar, honey, Dijon mustard, and cracked salt and pepper.

When it comes to weeknight entrees, I stay so busy that “quick with minimal cleanup” is my top priority. And while I typically don’t eat a ton of pork, a guaranteed way I will enjoy it is cooked with apples.

Enter this deliciously easy oneskillet dish. Frankly, the marinade for the pork is almost identical to the above salad dressing, which goes to show just how versatile these classic flavors and pantry staples can be. Just generously salt and pepper a 2-3lb pork tenderloin, then whisk together 3T olive oil, 3T Dijon mustard, 1/2C brown sugar, 1T minced garlic and 2T apple juice. Rub the pork with the mix, then cook it in a preheated medium skillet for about 10 minutes, turning every so often to ensure even cooking. Slice 2 apples into wedges and add those to the skillet and cook until pork is white and cooked through. Garnish with fresh thyme when serving.

I also love to add diced apples to a box of Stove Top when I’m cutting corners during the holidays. I make my entire meal from scratch, but one time-saver I thoroughly enjoy is boxed dressing, dressed up with my own secret ingredients. Just dice up onions, celery and apples, boil with 1 can of chicken broth and half a stick of butter per box, then when everything is boiling and softened stir in the boxed dressing mix, cover and set for 5 minutes. Just before serving dinner, I like to scoop it into a glass baking dish and bake in the oven about 15 minutes so the top gets nice and crispy. The mix of sweet and savory never makes the guests question its authenticity.

Finally, one of my ultimate fall favorites- apple crisp. To me, there is nothing that warms the soul better than a big bowl of apple crisp straight from the oven, topped with vanilla bean ice cream. While any apples will do, in my opinion honeycrisp is the way to go here.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, greese or butter an 8x8 dish and set aside. In the way of beverages there’s no shortage of ciders on the market, but I really love liquid apples in mimosa form. Using my juicer, I fresh juice apples and add a splash to bubbles at brunch, served in a caramel rimmed champagne flute.

If you don’t have a juicer or just don’t want the hassle, a half gallon of your favorite apple cider will work just as nicely.

Blonde The late Marilyn Monroe has been the subject of countless films and television shows, and there is a new film to add to the vast collection: "Blonde". The film is based on the 2000 novel of the same name, and is a fictionalized take on the career of the world's most famous blonde.

As I watched the film, I realized some aspects certainly happened in Monroe's life, and others I'm sure are speculation.One of the interesting aspects of the film is the fact there are segments in black and white and others in color, only adding to the mystique of the late actress. The film introduces us to Monroe as a child, known then as Norma Jeane Mortenson, and we see her life with her mentally unstable mother Gladys (Julianne Nicholson). Gladys is at times kind to Norma, and at other times is very harsh and abusive of her daughter.

One night when a fire breaks out in the Hollywood Hills, Gladys has a complete breakdown after she realizes Norma's father wants nothing to do with her. During her breakdown Gladys tried to drown Norma in the bathtub, but the child escapes to a neighbours house where a couple who know Norma take her in until they realize Gladys has been admitted to a mental hospital and they can no longer care for the child. In a heartbreaking moment, the couple

The film then moves from the 1930's to the 1940's and reveals Norman Jeane (Ana de Armas) has become a pin-up girl with the stage name Marilyn Monroe. After a horrible incident with a film studio president, she auditions for a role in the film "Don't Bother to Knock", and even though her audition goes horribly wrong, she impresses the casting director enough to be cast in the film. As her acting career continues to rise, she meets Charles "Cass" Chaplin, Jr. (Xavier Samuel) and Edward G. "Eddy" Robinson, Jr. (Evan Williams), the sons of two famous actors, and the trio develop an "interesting" relationship. Meanwhile, Monroe is cast in the movie "Niagara", which proves to be her breakout role. Once the role makes her a true film star, she is warned to stay away from Cass and Eddy, as her relationship with the duo could harm her budding career. As the film moves on, Monroe is cast in other famous films, including "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and "The Seven Year Itch". Some of her other films, including "Bus Stop", are never mentioned. The story also covers Monroe's various failed pregnancies, marriages to baseball star Joe Dimaggio (Bobby Cannavale) and playwright Arthur Miller (Adrien Brody), and infamous relationships with the Kennedy brothers, which is presented from and center in the film. By 1962, Marilyn has sadly become dependent on drugs and alcohol, and the dependency will eventually lead to her death, conspiracies aside. As she continues to spiral downward, one can't help but feel sorry for Monroe as she never was able to find lasting love and struggled to find respect in Hollywood as anything but a blonde "bombshell". Of course we know Monroe's life ended tragically, but the world was forever left with her splending work and amazing

onscreen chemistry, of which Norma could always turn on as MM. At times the film moves a bit slow, and has a long running time of 2 hours and 46 minutes, but is worth every moment due to the amazing performance of Ana de Armas. Armas is so in tune to Marilyn it's earth shattering, and I feel we will see her name announced come Oscar time. The film is rated NC-17, which I find a bit shocking considering most of the scenes which might be labeled controversial, have been seen in most R rated films. The film is directed by Andrew Dominik ("Killing Them Softly") and he is able to pull off a fresh take on Monroe

despite all the other efforts to hit the screen. The supporting actors are all wonderful, with the aforementioned Brody extremely effective as Miller.

The cinematography in the film is beautiful, and Armas looks radiant.

After viewing the film, I wish Monroe had been able to find lasting love and had been better treated by Hollywood, which may have resulted in a longer life. "Blonde" is a great watch for fans of Monroe and cinema history. Now playing on Netflix.

“Arsenic and Old Lace” has been an enduring part of American pop culture for close to 80 years. The original play opened on Broadway in 1941 and became a massive hit, one of the long-running shows of the era, and still holds as one of the longest-running non-musical hits. The success was bound to mean a movie adaptation, and under the direction of Frank Capra, the 1944 film of the play has also become just as enduring.

I hadn’t seen the film in several years till I checked out the new blu-ray from The Criterion Collection. It holds up and then some. I’d fathom most movie collectors, especially those who focus on the classic Hollywood era own a copy of this, and seeing it’s been over 20 years since the last home video release, the film was well overdue a big upgrade.

Last released on home video 22 years ago, on DVD in a “flipper case” (remember those?), “Arsenic and Old Lace” has at long last come to blu-ray in a truly exceptional edition from Criterion. Let’s start with the most surprising part of this release.

To my great surprise, the restoration notes included state that this new 4K restoration was sourced from the original nitrate camera negative.

Nitrate is a highly volatile film stock and can sometimes turn to dust. We are so lucky when a film’s negative still exists.

So what are the results? Well, compared to the old DVD this is a night-and-day experience. The film looks arguably the best it ever has. The film has such a rich and deep image.

I recall the film looking good, but I don’t recall it looking so “deep and shadowy” in places. The amount of fine detail that comes out on the new blu-ray is astounding. During some of Grant’s wonderful face exercises, you can see fine little patterns on the tie he’s wearing.

The audio is clear and crisp too, taken from the original optical source. I’d argue that maybe the movie didn’t look this good on the day it opened in theaters in 1944.

The bonus material on this disc is light, but not without weight. First, we have an audio commentary with author Charles Dennis, who wrote a book on the history of the play and movie. It’s a well-informed, scholarly

commentary. Rarely are there quiet spots, and the amount of information given is solid. It’s a great listen.

For those of us who have always wondered what Karloff was like in the role of Jonathan Brewster, Criterion has your back with the inclusion of a 1952 radio adaptation with him reprising his Broadway role. The original trailer and an essay by David Cairns round things out. Criterion always does a great job and those of us who have longed for an HD upgrade to “Arsenic and Old Lace” has gotten our wishes and then some.

It’s a must-own disc as far as I’m concerned, and perfect viewing for this time of year. See you next week.
