Give Day is evolving into a true college-wide celebration under the theme All in for Hope. This 48-hour event will bring together our entire Roadrunner community—students, staff, faculty, alumni, and partners like you—to demonstrate that hope isn't just a word; it's a commitment we all share.

More than 500 donors made a first-time gift and nearly 800 of our supporters gave $1,000 or less. Together, every gift collectively helps build brighter futures for students.

MAC “Stay Curious” Scholarship

This scholarship supports students on a career path toward completing their community college education. Established by Donna and Mike Gemperle, both lifelong educators who benefited from affordable public university education, this scholarship reflects their commitment to helping capable students overcome financial barriers and pursue their own career goals.

This scholarship supports students who embody curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Established by Madison Ave. Collective, the "Stay Curious" Scholarship reflects one of the agency's core values—encouraging continuous growth, creative exploration, and the willingness to question conventional approaches in both professional and personal development.

Lynn Trimpe Endowment

Karri Bryam Scholarship

This endowment provides one year of tuition for first-generation college students. Established

by Lynn Trimpe, a retired mathematics professor who taught at LBCC for many years, this scholarship reflects her dedication to supporting students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

This scholarship is for an Automotive Technology student with a preference for a female student from Lebanon. This scholarship was established

by Karri Bryam’s late husband. Karri worked at LBCC in various capacities for over 22 years.

STUDENT STORY

David Harris: Emergency

funding making the difference David Harris knows he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who needs help paying for gas. He’s 46 with a family and a fiancee, and has a four-year degree with 17 years of experience in that field.

But life changes forced a pivot for Harris and prompted him to begin studying diagnostic imaging through Linn-Benton Community College. He’s now driving 120 miles round-trip each day from his home in Bay City, near Tillamook, to his clinic work in Astoria. And that’s where LBCC’s Foundation has been able to provide emergency help. “[The Emergency Fund] - financial assistance, food assistance, all the different things the LBCC Foundation can help with - is so important,” Harris said. “I’m a testament to that and I’m not necessarily a person you would think would need that.”

Harris grew up in Southern California and got a degree in environmental science from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He loved the job, but when his extended family relocated to Oregon a little more than a decade ago, he decided to come, too.

Harris said. “Technology, helping people - that’s kind of where it all came together.”

Harris took some prerequisites at Portland Community College to qualify for Linn-Benton’s distance program. “The beauty was, I could do that,” he said. “I could stay home with my family and not have to relocate.”

Financing his education was the challenge, however. Harris took out loans to help with the PCC prerequisites and the LBCC program, but “that pretty much burned through every kind of savings I had,” he said.

Scholarships and the community college’s SNAP Training and Employment Program, which provides career assistance, have been critical, Harris said. His STEP coach was the first to mention the emergency fund to help offset his fuel costs. “I didn’t know it existed,” Harris said. “It’s an amazing resource.”

Now in his second year of the program, Harris will be doing clinical work until spring. After that, he’ll train as an X-ray technologist, then evaluate his choices.

Harris was hired at a nonprofit in Tillamook, but left in 2015 after a series of personnel challenges. That left him looking for a new direction.

“The motivating factor is to help a rural community out,” he said. “The field is short of people as it is, but even more so for a rural area.”

Personal events also hit him hard during that time.

Cancer and complications from diabetes took both of Harris’ parents in the next few years, and then in 2019, Harris himself was diagnosed with cancer.

He underwent chemotherapy and radiation and has been in remission since that year, but it was another factor in revising his life goals.

He also wants to "pay it forward," he said, after his own health crisis. “The greatest lesson I learned was how it is to feel so vulnerable and hurt and sick.

It really opens your eyes to what people are going through. You really don’t know what people are struggling with.”

Harris’ fiancee, an emergency room nurse he’d met while working as a volunteer firefighter, suggested he explore radiology. He loved the idea of working in a scientific field again, and of being able to help people who were going through their own medical crisis. “That really checked a lot of boxes for me,”

Harris said he wants people who donate to the LBCC Foundation to know how much they have mattered to his life. Losing his parents and his job and going through a personal health scare changed everything.

Even $1,000 makes a huge difference. “ It makes me even more grateful for the support, he said. You never know who’s going to need this."

Growing Together: How Willamette Valley Bank helps LBCC students succeed Community partners like Willamette Valley Bank are crucial to helping the Linn-Benton Community College Foundation support students.

“The funds do go to help students,” Tyndall said.

“Whether it’s to get dinner or a bus pass to get to school.”

This year, Willamette Valley Bank sponsored the VIP room at LBCC’s Night at the Corvallis Knights Baseball and presented a $1,000 scholarship during the game. They were also the presenting sponsor at the Foundation’s Monte Carlo Night fundraiser in 2024 and 2025.

Tyndall learned about LBCC’s variety of programs during a tour with Leadership Albany. She is glad when she has the opportunity to encourage people to explore the options at LBCC.

“I’ve just kind of grown my partnership with the LBCC Foundation,” said Crystal Tyndall, Willamette Valley Bank Albany Branch Manager.

“We like to support the community in any way we can.”

While the goal is to raise money and build community, joining in the festivities is an added perk.

“It was so much fun,” Tyndall said of this year’s Monte Carlo Night. “We had the greatest time.

Even the following week, my team and I chatted about it and are excited about next year.”

It’s important to the team at Willamette Valley Bank, and to Tyndall personally, to support students in continuing their education. Sponsoring and contributing to LBCC Foundation events helps them do that while strengthening community connections.

The LBCC Foundation provides emergency assistance, scholarships, and program support to help students overcome financial barriers.

“I feel like a lot of people don’t know about the amazing programs they have to offer,” Tyndall said. “There are a lot of good programs involving the trades, like welding. Not only are you working toward your degree, but they’re helping you get a job.”

She appreciates that in addition to the two-year programs like culinary arts and nursing, students can enroll in certificate programs or take individual classes.

Tyndall said any time she’s in front of students, she asks if they have a plan. And she always asks if they’ve considered LBCC. “I think a lot of people in the community care about nonprofits, like the LBCC Foundation, and students,” Tyndall said. “Especially if they know what the LBCC Foundation does and what they do for the students. I’m very happy with the partnership that we have.”

Scholarship Appreciation Reception (April 23) The Scholarship Appreciation Reception is a meaningful event celebrating the transformative impact of scholarships on student success and honoring the generosity of our donors. This special evening brings together scholarship recipients, donors, and community members to recognize the power of education in shaping futures. A highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award, which honors an exceptional LBCC graduate whose achievements and contributions have made a significant impact in their field or community. It’s an inspiring evening of success,gratitude, and community leadership, showcasing the profound difference scholarships make in the lives of students.

LB Night at the Knights (June 15) Join us for a fun, family-friendly evening at the ballpark where the community comes together to cheer on the Corvallis Knights and support LBCC students. During the game, nine $1,000 scholarships are awarded, one each inning, to attendees. alumni, donors, students, staff, and community partners. Enjoy a great night of baseball while helping advance student success through the LBCC Foundation.

Student Hope Tree (Mid November - Early December) The Student Hope Tree is a heartfelt initiative that brings the LBCC community together to support students facing financial challenges during the holiday season. Each "hope tag" on the tree represents a low-income student's requested need, from food and clothing to school supplies, gift cards, and more. Participants can select a tag and fulfill a student's wish, providing tangible support and hope during a critical time of year. This program shines a light on the power of community and generosity, ensuring that every student feels supported and valued as they pursue their educational goals.

President’s Circle (year-round) The President’s Circle is an exclusive group of donors who have demonstrated exceptional generosity with a giving history exceeding $1,000. These dedicated supporters play a vital role in advancing the LBCC Foundation’s mission to transform lives through education by funding scholarships, emergency assistance, and programs that enrich the student experience. Select members of the group gather three times a year—once each during the fall, winter, and spring terms— for exclusive events that provide opportunities to engage with LBCC leadership, hear updates on the impact of their giving, and connect with like-minded supporters. The President’s Circle represents a profound commitment to supporting students and investing in the future of our community.

Legacy Concert & Pre-Concert Reception (year-round) These special events are designed to celebrate and support LBCC’s vibrant music program and its talented students. The Legacy Concert provides key donors with an exclusive evening that begins with a private reception and continues with a behind-the-scenes experience of the choir’s dress rehearsal. This intimate event highlights the dedication and artistry of LBCC’s student performers. The Pre-Concert Reception is a VIP ticketed gathering held just before the choir’s public performance. Community members and stakeholders are invited to enjoy refreshments, connect with others, and show their support for the music program while preparing to experience an exceptional concert. Both events create opportunities to celebrate and invest in the future of LBCC’s music program, ensuring its continued success and impact on students and the community.

LBCC FOUNDATION STUDENT-FOCUSED EVENTS

Welcome Day (September 23) Welcome Day is LBCC’s signature event to kick off the academic year, designed to help new and returning students transition smoothly into college life. This engaging event introduces students to campus resources, programs, and opportunities, providing a strong foundation for their educational journey. Students can explore campus, meet advisors, instructors, and peers, and discover ways to get involved in the college community. Highlights include campus tours, program showcases in the courtyard, and fun activities like a scavenger hunt for prizes.

Pizza Roadshow (March) This pop-up, student-focused event stops at each LBCC campus to promote the spring scholarship cycle while addressing food insecurity, with 70% of students reporting they have skipped a meal due to limited resources. Students are invited to enjoy a free slice of pizza, connect with campus and Foundation staff, and learn more about available scholarship opportunities that can help support their educational goals.

Grilled Cheese Roadshow (October) The Grilled Cheese Roadshow brings free, warm meals to students across the LBCC campuses in October while promoting opportunities to support their educational journey. The roadshow's purpose is to encourage students to take advantage of our fall scholarship cycle by applying for funds that can ease financial burdens and help them stay focused on their educational journey. At the same time, the Roadshow addresses a critical issue on our campus — food insecurity. With 70% of students reporting skipped meals due to financial hardship, this event ensures every student has access to a hot meal and a reminder that they are supported. It’s a simple yet meaningful way to make a difference in the lives of our students.

Give Day 2026:

A new era of community impact Give Day is Linn-Benton Community College’s signature annual giving celebration—now expanded to two days for even greater student impact. On May 7–8, 2026, our campus and community will come together under one unifying theme: All in for Hope.

For the first time, Give Day will include both an internal campus celebration and a community fundraising event. The two-day experience is designed to engage every part of LBCC in support of our students.

DAY ONE – DUNK FOR HOPE

A spirited on-campus event featuring activities, connection, and a friendly internal competition with LBCC’s Executive Leadership Team. Faculty and staff can donate toward which leader they want to see “take the plunge,” with all funds supporting Give Day’s overall impact.

DAY TWO – MONTE CARLO NIGHT

Our long-running community favorite now becomes part of Give Day. Guests will enjoy a formal dinner prepared by Culinary Arts students, a performance by Music students, a live auction featuring program-driven experiences, and an evening of entertainment—celebrating hope and student success.

48 HOURS OF GIVING

Throughout both days, supporters can choose to give to five areas: LBCC Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund, LBCC Music Program, LBCC Culinary Arts Program, LBCC Athletics, or the LBCC Agricultural Sciences Program.

Each program will receive its own dedicated giving page, sharing stories, videos, and student experiences that demonstrate real impact.

GO Bags (SNAP Benefits)

In-Service Happy Hour

In response to the suspension of SNAP benefits in November, the Foundation launched an emergency “Student GO Bag” initiative. Within five days, we partnered with Grocery Outlet of Albany to assemble bags filled with pantry staples valued at $75 each, plus a $50 Safeway gift card. The Foundation provided 200 students with GO Bags and gave 80 waitlisted students $50 gift cards.

The Foundation’s annual Fall In-Service Happy Hour brought employees together on the Albany Campus for connection and celebration. Guests enjoyed charcuterie and beverages from Foundation sponsors, with LB-branded pet bandanas as appreciation gifts for attendees to take home.

Tool Ceremony

On July 21st, LBCC welcomed Dr. Tim Cook, President of Clackamas Community College, as he continued his Running for Oregon Community College Students (ROCCS) journey. Dr. Cook ran more than 1,500 miles across Oregon, visiting all 17 community colleges to raise awareness for student basic needs including food and housing insecurity. President Avery and a group of Roadrunners joined Dr. Cook for part of his run through Albany, celebrating his 1,000-mile milestone.

The Foundation supported this year’s ATTC Tool Ceremony, celebrating students in Career & Technical Education programs as they prepare to enter the workforce. Graduating first-year students received high-quality tools essential to their trade. Family, faculty, and industry partners gathered to celebrate their achievements and commitment to skilled careers.

Ag Center Groundbreak

In-Service Keynote Speaker

On May 22, 2025 more than 75 guests gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Agricultural Center in Tangent. Foundation staff coordinated all event logistics, including tents, seating, refreshments, and run of show. Representatives Shelly BoshartDavis and Sarah Finger-McDonald joined President Avery to celebrate the future of hands-on agricultural education in our region.

The Foundation brought Dr. Donna Beegle, a nationally recognized expert on poverty-informed practices, to LBCC’s Spring In-Service. Dr. Beegle delivered a keynote address and led two breakout sessions, offering faculty and staff practical tools to better support students navigating poverty barriers.

The Foundation coordinated her visit and covered her speaking fee.

Random Acts of Kindness

The Study Abroad Reception brought together students, faculty, and supporters to celebrate international education at LBCC. President Lisa Avery delivered opening remarks, followed by faculty highlighting program benefits and student testimonials about how international experiences broadened perspectives and shaped future aspirations.

Roadshow Events

Starting fall 2024, the Foundation launched monthly appreciation efforts for campus departments. Human Resources, the Business Office, First Resort, and Facilities each received surprise breakfast or lunch deliveries to recognize their valuable contributions to our community.

The Foundation’s signature roadshow events connect with students across all campuses while addressing food insecurity and promoting scholarship awareness. Throughout the year, we conducted three different roadshows (Pancake, Grilled Cheese, and Cookies & Cocoa) serving nearly 1,800 students across all LBCC locations.

These events featured donated ingredients from community partners including Grocery Outlet of Albany, First Alternative Natural Foods Co-Op, and Courtyard Café.
