The broadband battle in Lawrence is heating up. At their meeting this evening, city commissioners will consider providing a $1 million loan guarantee and other financial incentives to Lawrence-based Wicked Broadband to bring

âAs a private provider, there is no way I can compete with the financial backing of any municipality,â said Mike Bosch, CEO of RG Fiber, which is in the process of bringing high-speed Internet service to Baldwin City.

eâve been telling you that Lawrence is working harder to become a capital for innovation-based businesses. Well, did I sure get a lesson in innovation this weekend. I went to the Kansas State Fair, where innovation is almost everywhere you turn. I saw a canoe made out of scraps from a wooden fence, I saw intricate figurines made out pis-
tachio shells, and I saw a âone-man bandâ complete with cymbals on his head, a base drum on his back, bells on his shoes and a harmonica hanging from his hat.
