New Zealand-based animal health sciences company has chosen Lawrence to house its North American headquarters. Simcro Ltd. announced it has reached a deal for a three-year lease in the Bioscience and Technology Business Center on Kansas University’s West Campus. In its announcement, the company said it “foresees a rapid expansion” in the Lawrence area, but did not provide any details about expected job totals. People familiar with the deal said the company plans to start with a small executive staff of about three employees and expand from there. Please see OVERSEAS, page 2A
Major: Sports management Looking forward to: “Getting an education, meeting new people, and finding myself as a person.” Concerns: “Dreading the long nights of homework and making good grades.” Favorite thing about KU: “I’m so excited about KU basketball and, even though our team’s not the greatest, I’m excited about KU football, too.”

I’m so excited to jump right in.” Concerns: “Getting back into the school mode and making yourself study and do homework.” Favorite thing about KU: “The people. Everybody has been so nice. I don’t think I’ve met one mean person. It’s made me realize this is where I want to go.”
Major: Speech-language pathology Looking forward to: “Graduating, and my anthropology class.” Concerns: “Graduation also, yeah, and my audiology assessment class is terrifying.”

The idea of building a conference center downtown or elsewhere in Lawrence is still getting studied at City Hall. But voters who may want to know more about a CITY COMMISSION conference center proposal before going to the ballot box in November for a sales tax to support a new police headquarters likely won’t have much information.
