THE LBT PEOPLE

The ’s mission is ‘Inspiring Performance’ and this season sees us continue to grow that ambition.

To confidently bring you great drama we are forging new partnerships with big producing companies. This season we are working with Nottingham Playhouse (p5) and the John Godber Company (p6), as well as starting a new three year relationship with English Touring Theatre (p8).

In our In Motion series we want to find the best in contemporary dance and projects with something to say or ways to join in that entice people to explore highly physical and visual work for the first time. We welcome back (p14), and we are delighted to ballet show Gary Clark’s hit (p16) and the gig-come-festival dance piece (p17). Our circus partnership continues also with (p15).

The big development this year is our Christmas show – ’s first ever traditional pantomime (p10-11). will be the result of months of preparation from everyone at the theatre. We’re thrilled our first pantomime will be the most popular title of all, and we’ve enlisted the help of some panto royalty – Joyce Branagh, who has previously directed pantomimes at Watford Palace Theatre and Salisbury Playhouse and Andrew Pollard, who has written pantomimes for and been the Dame in Greenwich Theatre, London.

WHY DID YOU APPLY TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER STEWARD AT THE LBT? When my children had left home I found I had a bit more time to myself. I had always volunteered in some capacity but usually something to do with my children. I decided I wanted to look out six years ago.

It surely can’t be the best season ever?

Oh yes it is!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT VOLUNTEERING HERE? It’s a great way to expand my tastes by seeing genres of theatre that I wouldn’t otherwise experience. The volunteer benefits also allow me to treat family and friends to a night out at the LBT every now and then. I also enjoy feeling that I’m doing my bit to keep the theatre thriving – it is an important part of our town.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING AT THE THEATRE? I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in theatre, dance, performing arts or music. The eclectic range of shows means there is always something for someone in every season. I would to any performing arts also recommend volunteering at the students, or recently retired people looking for something new and interesting to get involved in.

We’ll start the week by seeing a show at the – (p7), a fast-paced extravaganza filled with grand illusions and crazy circus thrills. Drawing on inspiration from the show we will create our own play about magicians, 32

witches and wizards who are jinxed…and must unlock the secrets to lift the curse! We’ll create a ‘magical’ performance to share with family and friends on Friday afternoon. Come and join us for a spellbinding theatrical experience.

There is also the opportunity to achieve an Arts Award Discover as part of the project.
