EXHIBITIONS CUPS | GROUP EXHIBITION Cups is a group exhibition showcasing talented ceramic artists from all over the country. Each artist will create five new cups in their unique style of functional pottery for this event, highlighting the captivating legacy of outstanding ceramics at the Lawrence Arts Center. CUPS THE MIDDLE | SARAH WILLIAMS In this new body of work, Sarah Williams skillfully utilizes her paintings to pay homage to her treasured regional history and upbringing in northern Missouri. Williams’ paintings, born from homesickness, have evolved into strange souvenirs, capturing the essence of the places she has left behind and the structures and things she has known most intimately. Despite ultimately returning to her home region, she has come to understand that, in many ways, she’ll never be home again.

BEYOND THE RUSHES TALL | ANGIE PICKMAN 2024 BENEFIT ART AUCTION FEATURED ARTIST Angie Pickman is a nationally recognized cut paper artist who combines the art of traditional paper cutting with collage to create intricately detailed works of art and animations. Inspiring Pickman’s work is her love of nature and the tranquility of the rural Kansas terrain.

DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

The School of Dance strives to provide access to dance classes and performances through various financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

Boys Dance Scholarship | For young men in grades 2-12 who demonstrate a strong interest in the field of dance. To apply, contact Hanan Misko at hanan@lawrenceartscenter.org.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a free Irish Step Dance performance and participate in traditional Irish group dances led by Annie Stark. The performance will last 30 minutes with group activities to follow. This event is in partnership with the Lawrence Public Library.

2024-25 Carmine Ballere Scholarship Auditions Sunday, March 24 | 1-2:30 pm | 10th & Mass Studios Grades 5-12, Equivalent to Ballet IV-VII The Carmine Ballere Scholarship awards two students who have demonstrated excellence and commitment in dance and are currently enrolled in Ballet IV-VII to audition. The scholarship covers the tuition of four ballet and pointe classes per week, and all production and participation fees in Fall 2024/Spring 2025. The awardees are required to serve as teaching assistants once per week.

Students will learn basic techniques of Mokuhanga, a traditional Japanese woodblock printing process, including carving woodblocks, inking the woodblocks with watercolor inks, and hand-printing the woodblocks with a barren.

Create a colossal woodcut and print it using a steamroller! Blocks are carved over the span of two months utilizing traditional hand tools, electric carvers, saws and routers. Carve your own or team up with a friend. The course will culminate in a public printing event during the Art Tougeau block party on June 1.
