“I’M WORKING

ON MY

SERMON IN

MY HEAD ALL

WEEK LONG.

GETTING

IT DOWN ON

PAPER IS

THE LAST

PART OF THE

PROCESS.” 10:00 A.M. “Every Tuesday, I lead the women’s prayer group. We’ll discuss what’s happening in Baltimore and Nepal or stuff we’re struggling with closer to home. We end with a prayer.” 12:30 P.M. “I’m meeting with Gwen Haley, chairperson of the women’s spirituality and fellowship committee, to finalize room reservations and nitty-gritty details for next weekend’s retreat.”

THROUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD

“I’m honored to be invited into the inner chambers of people’s lives— both their happy moments and their sorrows.”

1:00 P.M. “I’m one of three ministers at the church, and each week we rotate different duties. I need to get all my ducks in a row because I’m leading this Sunday’s worship service.” 2:20 P.M. “I often visit church members going through a rough patch, like Jean Blanning, who’s recovering from surgery. At times we pray. Other times I’ll help them manage practical matters.”

3:45 P.M. “Many nights I have meetings or events for work, so whenever I’m able, I carve out time to pick up the girls from school so we can hang out together in the afternoon.” 5:15 P.M. “As a firefighter, my husband works 24-hour shifts. If we’re both working, my parents, who live with us, help. I love that my kids have a close relationship with their grandparents.”
