WHERE ARE THEY
TAKING US
TO?
AUGUSTO MORA
Students of the Ayotzinapa’s Teacher Training College were intercepted by police officers and an armed group at dawn, September 26th, 2014, in Iguala, Guerrero. The students were taking ownership of buses to attend a demonstration at Mexico City. 43 students disappeared that night. The police never took them to prosecution authorities. Today, three years after that tragic night, relatives of those youngsters still don’t know what happened to them. The government tried to close the case with a so-called historical truth that left too many loose ends and unbelievable explanations for what had happened. Relatives of the 43 students, some human rights defenders and journalists have pointed out State and Federal Polices and the Mexican Army as alleged perpetrators. Where are they taking us to? is a graphic novel that tries to provide the reader a timeline to understand the Night of Iguala –as it came to be called—, as well as the social demonstrations that happened all over the world seeking justice for the 43 teachers in training. And it’s a call to build a historical memory, not to forget and join the voices that keep on demanding justice for this painful episode of Mexico’s recent history. Augusto Mora
