Laurens County reported 30,228 pounds of litter, nearly doubling 2024 totals. This includes litter collected through inmate pickups, Adopt-a-Highway efforts, and KLCB-led cleanups.
KLCB’s volunteer-driven efforts remove litter from public spaces, reduce environmental and infrastructure costs, and foster community pride and stewardship throughout Laurens County.

In its 12th year, the volunteer-run Team Ecology program engaged more than 600 students from across Laurens County at the Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center, providing hands-on environmental education to Districts 55 and 56 third graders, as well as students from Thornwell, Laurens Academy, and homeschool groups.

In June, KLCB and Laurens County Rural Collection distributed 120 free tarps for Secure Your Load Day (June 6). In partnership with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, KLCB also installed 10 new “Secure Your Load” signs at all Laurens County Green Box sites and joined the Zero Tolerance for Litter Month kickoff at the State House reinforcing that securing loads is the law and essential to keeping roads safe and litter-free.

KLCB and community partners collected more than 1,000 pounds of plastic bags and wrap through the NexTrex Recycling Challenge, earning our first bench, now placed at a Revolutionary War 250 site as we prepare for the upcoming 250th celebration.

KLCB partnered with Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission on the second storm drain mural contest with 40 entries, participated in a lake monitoring workshop with Preserving Lake Greenwood and Camp Fellowship, supported an Adopt-a-Stream class at the Joe Adair Outdoor Education Center, and partnered with Friends of the Reedy River to host a Boyds Mill Pond cleanup. Plans are underway to install four new storm drain murals in 2026 using contest designs to promote clean water awareness.
