enjoy every moment “Enjoy every moment” was the second visual I created for the zine. This quote represents my life a lot. I try to enjoy every moment within whatever I do and within my work. Although mistakes are made, and I could spend hours creating something which turns out to be a mistake or I don’t end up using the visual for anything I tell myself that it’s all a working progress. I also wanted to use this visual to communicate my current project through the style of the graphic. I applied a chrome effect to the text, liquifying it and using a handful of bright colours, creating a dripping acid effect to represent my research into 90s acid house.

trust the process “Trust the processes” is more of a softer visual using pinks and purples to represent the creative, soft, kind individual I am. I included a butterfly within the visual, as this represents growth, my growth through life, and the growth within my work. I’m always growing and becoming a better person and bettering the work I produce. “Trust the process” is the idea that no matter what you’re going through, if you trust the process and think about the end goal in sight, all your struggles that you face will be worth it when you reach the goal. If there are times where I’m working on a piece of work and it isn’t improving, and I don’t like the look of it, sometimes I’ll just give in. Whereas I need to carry on working and try to make it better rather than just waste hours creating something for nothing. However, as told in our lecture ‘make mistakes’, I will include my mistakes into my portfolio as this is research and progress.

your comfort zone will kill you “Your comfort zone will kill you” is a visual I created which is a very powerful, inspiring quote. My comfort zone is a safe place where I spent a lot of my time in. Usually, before the pandemic, I used to take chances, step outside my comfort zone and was an extroverted person. However, since the pandemic, I’ve found myself full of worry and anxiety, and extremely introverted. I created this visual as I wanted to remind myself to step out of my comfort zone again, accomplish dreams, grow, find new purposes, face new challenges, and remember that everything happens for a reason.

90s baby

“90s baby” is a visual I created to reflect my working progress. I decided to type ‘90s baby’ across this visual, as I’m a 90s baby, and to reflect my project on 90s rave culture. I included two images within this visual, which represent 90s youth culture. I created a half-tone effect on this visual to communicate a 90s aesthetic.

behind the zine For this part of the module, we were set a brief of creating a zine. As soon as this brief was set was delighted, as I love creating zines or doing anything InDesign related. As soon as the brief was set, I immediately started scanning Pinterest and social media for inspiration. We were asked a specific set of questions such as “Who are you?”, “How would you represent yourself ”, “Do you have a project” “What processes are you using”, etc. I began jotting down responses to the questions whilst in class. At first, I was struggling to find answers, as my projects are only just starting, and I didn’t have a clue where to begin with answering most of them. We were given examples of some zines which had been created by previous students, and most of the zines shown were mainly one colour, or two colours. I began to panic at first because I thought to myself, what colour would I even chose to represent me? And then, I thought to myself I can use every colour. Especially, to represent my work, I wouldn’t use just one or two colours, I work well with combining all colours together, constantly layering images and altering the effects. I wanted to create an image-based zine, using quotes which relate to my life, work, and work processes. I wanted to use this zine to communicate myself, the style I work, colours I work with and what I have researched. By creating the visuals for my zine, I’ve experimented with my skills and learnt new skills within the process, whilst building research for my portfolio. I decided to name my zine “Go with the flow”. I chose this as with life, and with my work I always go with the flow. Since starting my undergraduate degree, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, and I was always just going with the flow and seeing where it took me. Now I’m studying my master’s in graphic design, I still don’t know what I want to do when I graduate, I’ll just go with the flow and watch my life plan out. The first visual I created was the front cover. I wanted the front cover to lead the rest of the zine, therefore I chose a multi coloured background with glowing text. This visual was the hardest to create, as I made a lot of mistakes. However, I managed to give myself a few breaks and come back to it and complete it.
