Living History: The Titanic
Saturday, February 3rd • 11am and 2pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED Embark on a fascinating journey, as we open the door to the past in an interactive way. Participants will unlock the Titanic’s past and experience a sampling of tastes, sounds, and history of the RMS Titanic during this living history event. We’ll pay tribute to the passengers and crew and learn more about its maiden voyage. Please note that participants may or may not get to sit with all of those in their party. Seating is randomly selected based upon individual boarding passes, which will be received upon entry. The boarding pass will include social class and seating (1st, 2nd or 3rd class). This is a free event co-sponsored by Friends of the LCPL. Friends will have a donation box located in the lobby with proceeds benefitting library outreach.

Your friends and family will love these delicious treats and you’ll love how easy they are to make. Sheila Parrett will demonstrate how to create these no-bake truffles and share tips and tricks so your treats will have a perfect presentation.
This month’s pick explores a bittersweet romance in reverse. After a relationship ends, the novel unravels the couple’s history, moving backward from the tragic breakup to their magical first kiss.

Thursday, February 15th • 5:30-6:30pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Anne Shelby is a skilled storyteller known for bringing traditional Appalachian folk tales to life in a contemporary context. Drawing on her roots in Southeastern Kentucky, Shelby’s narratives are steeped in the region’s language, history, and humor. As a recognized Kentucky Arts Council Master Storyteller, she captivates audiences across various settings, including schools, libraries, conferences, and festivals. Some of her notable works for both children and adults include titles such as The Man Who Lived in a Hollow Tree, inspired by a family legend, and The Adventures of Molly Whuppie and Other Appalachian Folktales, which earned her an American Folklore Society Aesop Accolade. Shelby resides on her family’s homestead in Clay County.

These hearts are made to be placed in public places for a stranger to find. We encourage sewists of all abilities to join us, as we use every last piece of fabric to make something meaningful that will brighten someone’s day.

Wednesday, February 21st • 1-3pm Location: Auditorium NO REGISTRATION Based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, the movie tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. This movie is rated PG-13.
True Crime: Rodney Alcala
Tuesday, February 27th • 6-7pm Location: Auditorium REGISTRATION REQUIRED Rodney Alcala was an American serial killer whose good looks and high IQ helped him lure victims. His 1978 appearance on the television show The Dating Game resulted in his nickname of “The Dating Game Killer.” While he has been conclusively linked to eight murders, Alcala’s true number of victims remains unknown and could be much higher.
