studies of vintage wedgwood jasperware + claude monet ' s work on the seine river
2026

I grew up noticing the small, beautiful treasures in my life. As a young girl, I took notice when my mom received a vase or fine china at Christmas from my grandparents. I spent a ridiculous amount of time carefully arranging precious, sparkly objects in her china cabinet; adjusting Swarovski crystal animals that captured the light and painted rainbows across the room. I was captivated by the timeless elegance of Wedgwood china, crystal, and the delicate, romantic Lladró sculptures that stood proudly on each shelf. To me, it was all pure magic. I loved visiting my great-grandmother’s home in Wisconsin — touching the fine silk fabrics on her furniture, admiring the mother-of-pearl chinoiserie coffee table, and watching her drink from the most beautiful teacups I had ever seen. The women in my family gifted and collected shiny objects, and I wanted to be in the club.

As I slowly grew into adulthood, I found myself wanting to collect and gift all of the things I had admired growing up. I love giving small, vintage Wedgwood pieces to my mom and sisters, and find so much joy in the hunt for beautifully crafted objects.

This collection grew from a deep dive into Wedgwood Jasperware and my love of Claude Monet’s work. Monet’s continual study of the Seine River inspired me to revisit the same scene repeatedly, each time finding something new in a familiar view. At the same time, I experimented with and combined Wedgwood’s iconic motifs; capturing all the beauty and ornamentation of that timeless pottery house in my own work.

I love this collection deeply. It is strong yet feminine, precise yet hazy; everything I love about design and artistry, rolled into one showstopping body of work.

She has been working in the design field for over 10 years and painting in the margins of her chaotic and beautiful life as a wife and mother. In 2020, Laurel-Dawn took the leap into being a fine artist, full time.

Laurel-Dawn has always drawn inspiration from the lines made from her Creator; the natural lines of a rigid mountainside, or the dramatic curves seen in leaves and flower petals. She strives to glorify beauty that already exists from her small corner of the world; embracing the delicate, yet messy process of being an artist.
