MILK & HONEYII

MILK & HONEYII
available Thursday, April 24 10am CST at laureldawncornerstudio.com
As I look through this body of work, I can't help but reflect on the first time I dove into a series of landscapes using a limited color palette. The first Milk & Honey collection was built out of a need to create without a full fledged idea. I was in a tough headspace, grieving a loss and wanted a place to put my energy. I started with a limited color palette out of necessity so that I could quickly place marks down on a surface. There was no time to mix color, no time to consider a palette, I just needed to busy my hands. Ragged mark after ragged mark, my body began to relax, the tears stopped streaming down my face and I had landed in a place of peace and resolve. All of my frustration and toiling lead to a place with a far off mountainside, trees in the forground and wild grass bending toward the light. I was genuinley surprised that all the grief and ugliness that I started with had turned into this beautiful, unexpected place that would, over time, lead to contentment.
My hope for this collection of work is that each study would bring a sense of quiet contentment to your home. These small works invite the viewer to come closer, to lean in and carefully take in the artist's point of view. The undone nature of each study make the work feel like it's in the middle of a process, not quite there, but in the beautiful, messy place where the promise of a completed, perfect view is beginning to come into focus.

Laurel-Dawn graduated from Auburn University with a BFA in graphic design with a strong focus in fine art. She has been working in the design field for over 10 years and painting in the margins of her chaotic and beautiful life as a wife and mother. In 2020, Laurel-Dawn took the leap into being a fine artist, full time.
Laurel-Dawn has always drawn inspiration from the lines made from her Creator; the natural lines of a rigid mountainside, or the dramatic curves seen in leaves and flower petals. She strives to glorify beauty that already exists from her small corner of the world; embracing the delicate, yet messy process of being an artist.
Laurel-Dawn currently resides in Homewood, Alabama with her husband and two boys.
